Ike was a physical freak who had size and speed that is rare even in the NFL. Dion Ray has a size and skill set that hundreds of college players possess. Dion Ray appears to be a good player who should be able to help us win some games. I hope his position change gives him the platform to show that he can be a difference maker for us.
I've seen it said here that he didn't want to play anything other than qb. If that was the case, hopefully Nape and crew have convinced him to try his hand at some other slots. If he's successful, it could elevate him to his real potential and both he and the Cajun squad will be the winners. I'd sure like to see him do well.
......players possessing great athleticism can pretty easily change from one position to another.....other than the knowledge part and reps, they may quickly surpass the starter at the new position.....with his body, I think he could also be a great blocker on the outside!!!
Getting the ball into the hands of a player who can make tacklers miss is always a positive thing. Getting the ball to Ray on a tunnel screen or bubble or jet sweep has to pay dividends.
UL produces less than one NFL player(not a camp body) per year. If you believe Ray is the one guy who will make it from his grad class, you are entitled to your opinion. I think it will be one of the other receivers who possess just as much athleticism and have better measurables.
