My top 3 freshman to look for are all on defense, Moncrief, Cordova and Mapieu.
From the article- “The new NCAA rule allows freshmen to play in up to four games without losing their redshirt, and it’s up to coaches when those games fall.”
That is very lenient IMO. Last year for example, Levi Lewis would have been able to have played at the end of last season and still keep the redshirt
It will help us more than P5 schools. Reason is it will allow us to have more depth once injuries occur.
I think the rule will help us more during the season, no doubt. However, I do think this could help P5 schools hang onto players that may have normally transferred.
Now, instead of not playing at all and getting frustrated and leaving, a player can play basically 1/3 of the games as a freshman, and still have four years.
Is playing one out of every 3 games enough to keep a kid from transferring, I don't know. But it is a helluva lot better than sitting out a whole season of no games and plenty of scout team practices.
Thinking it's a good thing for the players, you remember the reason for college sports, at least allegedly.
P5 teams are loaded with talent and your elite P5 school are a talent graveyard. If you're a freshman there you still won't see the field when the 3rd string guys is a former 3 star guy that's been ridding the bench for three years. Then when they get a commitment from a 4 or 5 star guy in the next class that's when the transfers happen
