Greg Davis, the longtime director of the Cajundome, announced Friday that he will retire at the end of the Cajundome's fiscal year, Oct. 31.

Davis announced his retirement in a letter to the Cajundome Commission at its July meeting.

According to the letter Davis submitted to the commission, his retirement is part of his proposed solution to a budget deficit for the current fiscal year.

"The economy of Lafayette is having a most serious impact on our ability to maximize live entertainment business," Davis wrote in his letter. "As a result, our deficit for (fiscal year) 2018 will exceed the operating subsidy. This is a first."
I read this and figured it would be of interest to Cajuns fans. Specifically in terms of the deficit. It seems that the Cajundome management hasn't done enough to generate revenue by bringing in acts on a regular basis.

Greg Davis refused to open the Cajun Dome up for events that declined concession stand needs.

A lot of revenue was lost for restaurants and hotels, especially multi day events.

Hopefully the next director will see the big picture on how the Cajun Dome can be an asset to the community.

According to KATC, the cajundome has an operating deficit for the first time. Davis is leaving and being replaced by their current marketing director. I doubt much changes tbh

    Why is this "off topic?"

  7. Default Local economy, lack of concerts hit Cajundome financially

A downturn in the local economy and fewer concerts hit the Cajundome financially this year, causing a nearly $500,000 deficit.

With 300 unused dates a year they need to open the Cajun Dome up to brown bag events.

At least the city can recoup it's contributions through hotel and restaurant sales tax.

  9. UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: Cajundome director Greg Davis retiring after 33 years of service

The Cajun Dome kills revenue with it's bandito approach to concessions at the Ragin'Cajuns basketball events. I'm sure it's the same with brown bag events, lots of brown bags smuggled into the arena.

They book garbage concerts as well. Janet Jackson and Styx were no where near full. Shreveport, Baton Rouge and New Orleans are bringing in huge acts all the time.

hockey put the Cajun dome in the green. Interest died and Greg pumped up rent. Never been a fan of him as the director or as an “activist.” I’m sure he’s a great man otherwise. Good riddance.

In the article he tried to make himself out to be a martyr and blamed everyone else for the lack of acts...
