I am not talking from an athletic stand point. I have always understood the law to say it had to be like the logo to the left of the TEXAS one for academics? With the Lafayette having to be a certain % to the size of Louisiana. That's the way I interpreted it. Turbine you are more educated on this, than I, can you quote the law that would suggest that logo is legal.

A stand alone "Louisiana" reference is not illegal academically.

Only when 'Louisiana' is preceded by "University of" do any stipulations apply.

I have to say one of my favorite FDL logos is this one

That purple and ____ FDL is pretty classy.

We could own the FDL in college sports. Yes we would have to make an effort, but just like all good things it will pay off in the end. There is no other symbol we could use that would instantly connect this university with Louisiana.

    We need to own it.

    In college sports

Tech owns the outline of the state, Tulane owns the Pelican logo, LSU owns the Tiger logo. We need to own the FDL, and Ragin Cajuns logo.

Unless they start calling themselves the Pelican's, there is a degree or two of separation in Tulane owning the Pelican logo. Meaning, it's of low value.

I have never seen Tulanes pelican logo. I am only familiar with that little mad looking green wave thing a ma jig.

A Pelican mascot on the sidelines is one thing, no objections.

A strong graphical presence of a pelican without full adoption of the name "Pelican" is diversionary marketing. They are the Green Wave but people will see the Pelican making the wave a secondary graphic.

Agree what does a pelican have to do with a green wave. Miami has that bird (forget what its called) which is said to be the last bird out before the hurricane hits. That at least makes sense.
