lets not forget that what the new leadership is doing is not primary for today. its for 5 years, 10, 20 years from now. future fans, donors, students, etc. Also, the FDL has different meaning based on color alone.

Black and Gold - N.O. Saints,
Purple, Yellow, and Green - N.O/Mardi Gras,
    Red - UL Ragin Cajuns.

now ours may not be top of mind everywhere today, but if you tell someone the red FDL represents our university, first they quickly understand and next time recognize and associate it with us anywhere they see it. consistency is the major key, even if you have a primary, secondary and 3rd alternate form of marketing/logo , ( Louisiana, Ragin Cajuns, and FDL , in no particular order) those should be the only ones you ever see.

    Let me make a point?

Now let's move on. You will notice that they all have to do with one state!

I agree with you on marketing all 3. It would just be a plan marketing fail to throw away a helmet of 20 years recognition and change to another unrecognizable helmet over night.

Definitely no one and only with that logo. We look like a lsua&m & NOLA me too wannna to be.

Having said that, that FDL looks much better than that huge thing we wore against Kentucky, that didn't fit on side the helmet.

I understand from a marketing standpoint (athletics) you might want to push the moniker over the symbol but I'll still argue the two can coexist.

I found sixteen yearbook covers that had the FDL on it going all the way back to 1931. Many are associated with the University seal but the 2001,2007, 2010, and 2016 yearbooks all have very prominent displays of the FDL on the cover.

If one wants to argue whether or not the FDL should be a prominent part of our marketing I get it but there is no arguing its historical association and recognition with the University.

Think about this.... our QUAD makeover includes an extremely large three dimensional FDL as its centerpiece.

Bottom line is the FDL has a very long history with the University and it has the support of the administration moving forward. It isn't going anywhere and from the discussions I've had (shortly after T-Joe came aboard) I think it will be fairly prominent.
The FDL is on our official university (1898) seal (see below). It is a perfect symbol for the university and one that needs to be marketed. But, it has to be associated with Louisiana and Ragin Cajuns. UL has failed to market Louisiana and Ragin Cajuns together for some time and only now is starting to do that. It was mentioned that the FDL is in the center of the Quadrangle on campus (see below). I suggest that when we remove the Cox Building and put up a Square, in the middle of the Square put a smaller version of the FDL and fountain to further connect the main campus with the athletic campus.

Many of our recruits refer to us as UL Lafayette or Louisiana Lafayette. Surely, that does not come from anything athletic as athletically we are Louisiana. It comes from the academic information they receive which uses our official name and surely confuses them.

Here is a solution that should help to coordinate use of Louisiana both athletically and academically.

Change our academic logo to one similar to Texas and Wisconsin, just substitute Louisiana for Texas or Wisconsin with our FDL logo (see below). This serves two purposes:

    1. It provides our legal name, but also refers to us as Louisiana, and
    2. It ties the Louisiana name to both athletics and academics

Use of Louisiana alone is not prohibited by the law as "University of" is not included. If it works athletically, it should work academically. But, just to be safe, we still keep the official name underneath LOUISIANA.

So, when recruits see the new logo, or anyone for that matter, they see Louisiana, not Louisiana Lafayette. Now, we need to use this athletically as well, only replace "University of Louisiana ... at Lafayette" with "Ragin Cajuns". And, use this new logo athletically instead of the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns logo we now use (see below which doesn't even have the FDL). Now the university logos mirror each other. Can someone create an athletic logo to mirror the new academic one and paste here? UL's e-News now uses such a logo and it looks great (see below).
This should be the official university academic and athletic logos. I submitted this suggestion to Dr. S and to Dr. Maggard, but did not receive a response from either. Hopefully, it is being looked at and was used as the basis for the new e-News logo.

This is a perfect time for the university to revisit marketing and logos, both academically and athletically.

An outline of The State of Louisiana says "LOUISIANA" fairly well.

I am not even advocating new helmets, all I am saying is we need to incorporate the FDL more into our marketing plan!

Which is technically what we did in baseball!

    FDL hats, Louisiana on Jersey!

All I am saying is FDL helmet should be the secondary helmet! White helmet double red strip white face mask to be exact.

Everything besides the Saints is to busy.

The G's are to plain and the Green Water Packers were my first favorite team.
