I would like to see these as our primary unis. Those would be travel unis, and we should have home unis in red to match, including helmets.

By the way, the coolest thing about those unis was the numbers on the opposite side of the helmets.

Those uniforms were, by far, the best this university ever produced and received rave reviews nationwide after that game. They were even mentioned as a fan favorite by other SBC schools on the SBC board.
Good lord you guys put way too much thought into this stuff. How do you have the time? LOL

Who ever said anything about erasing history? I said nothing about history. Brand recognition and history are 2 totally different things. What you lose is 15 years of seeing one helmet and knowing the exact school it is for, to if you change next year it takes another 15 years for people to get to where we are now with brand recognition. History and tradition of most universities is stick with your helmet for the long haul. Changing now is starting all over again.

If you took the 4 helmets in that pic, on the equipment managers twitter and did a survey across the country of college football fans and asked what school is this and what there mascot. Very few would have a clue. If you did the same with the helmet we have been wearing since the name change the results would be overwhelming different.

First off we don't have a mascot and haven't since the Bulldog back in the 70's.

We do have a moniker (Ragin Cajuns). We also have a logo (FDL). Both have been around the program for a very long time with inconsistent usage through the years. Then we have an athletic identity (Louisiana).

I think the logo needs to be consistent across all platforms. Doesn't need to be the most prominent thing all of the time but needs to show up somehow on every single uniform etc. Might be a large display on the helmet or a small display on a sleeve. Louisiana or Ragin Cajuns could be used together or separate as appropriate.

I'm not really buying into this being an identity crisis because of the above. That has been created by the USL, ULL, UL, Louisiana, Louisiana-Lafayette, ULaLa, Southwestern........pile of excrement.

Not true 90 we had a bulldog again in the early 90's. It was only for a short period of time, but I was in school then and knew the guy who took care of him. I would say that maybe 91-93, someone can probably confirm the actual years.

Trademark, no, but you can copyright a logo.

You say we have a logo the FDL, for what 1 year now and before that the Cayenne pepper was our logo. What ever they do stick to it. If FDL on the helmet then Ragin Cajuns has to be across the front of the jersey. Ragin Cajun is the single most recognized name for this school across the country.

To copyright something don't you have to invent it?

IMO everyone in the country knows the FDL as the Saints logo. Most people outside of the UL supporters see us as having an identity crisis. (I sort of agree as much as they change branding around the university) Outside of acadiana it would just lend more credence to our ID crisis. It would be said we are copying the saints.
