Thread: Early 2018 Football Expectations Poll

I expect to be fundamentally sound. I expect our guys to play hard. I expect student athletes to not bring shame upon the program. I do not expect to win.

    That's it for year one.

"I do not expect to win" Not even 1 game ?!?!?

I, like Mike, will reserve my feelings about the hire and our situation likely til after the season is complete and recruiting has started to unfold. I'm not going down that rabbit hole again like we did with Hud.
By no means do I expect the man to suddenly hang the moon. But when the greatest coach in college football calls our AD to put a good word in, that says a lot. He has two national championship rings from his 5 year stint at Alabama, and he was named OC at Clemson at the age of 29. There were even a lot of Arizona State fans that wanted him as the HC over Herm Edwards.

I will also reserve judgement until after the season, but with the finances that we have invested in he and his coaching staff; I expect him to be successful in the long run.

Bama, Miss St, App St and stAte are all games I’m counting as losses. Troy is a likely loss as well.

Then there are games that could go either way. But I think those are all games that we should win.

Oh, we'll win some games. But that isn't my expectation. I want to see the groundwork laid for future EXCELLENCE. I am not concerned about how many games we win in the first year.

I want (and expect) to win championships. That will take a little time. Therefore, 2018 doesn't concern me that much.

There is no quick fix for excellence.

I think Maggard did his homework when it came to hiring coaches. Glasco overly impressed me this year with the hand he was dealt. Can't wait to see what he can do in year two, three and beyond.

As for Coach Napier, he is totally opposite of Coach Hud. Coach Hud was a rah, rah guy. He accomplished a lot in his first two-three years, but the rah rah finally wore off.

Coach Napier gives me the impression he is a teacher/results oriented type of person. And if you still can't get it, he will find someone who can. Unfortunately, you have to give a new football coach 2-3 years before you start getting true results. I expect we will have about 7 wins this year, give or take a win.

But it is time for this university to explode onto the football world. There is no reason why this can't be a top 20 team each and every year, getting into the top 10 every ten years or so. NO MORE MORAL victories. If I have to hear "they played tough and should look on this as a moral victory" one more time, when playing the Alabama's, MState's, FLA, GA...….I might just jump off the Cajun Field wall.

It's time to kick their butts and just get the victory.

He spent a year at Colorado State. In fact he mentioned in one interview that he found that one year invaluable as it showed him the resource difference between the two sides of the tracks.

I think he meant he did not expect a winning season.

I agree with the view of Coach Napier being likened to a teacher. He appears to be a very cerebral type of person.

Napier reminds me of Robe...bigger on the priocess than results. Buy into the process and results will come. Cares about the players becoming men

But if he doesn't produce the results, the axe will fall on him.

I agree, that's how he comes across to me as well.
