I don't doubt he's striving for a better schedule but he hasn't beaten the better opponents from any schedule he's had thus far. His record, as posted recently, against top 100 and 200 teams is absolutely atrocious. Not to mention that we have been relatively non competitive against the P5 we face every year. Even last year, our record against P5 teams was terrible and we didn't play the cream of the crop either.
Last year we beat a P5 team for the first time in 14 years. And, while Ole Miss was not good, Clemson was VERY good.
You said it. First time in 14 years! And its not like we play the cream of the crop every year. We are rarely even competitive in these games. I realize that Iowa was terrible it was a good start nonetheless. We need to do better against an Ole Miss, LSU and yes, even Clemson.
"Even last year, our record against P5 teams was terrible."
That's quoting you.
Since we hadn't won one in 14 years, I found "terrible" to be "laughable."
True, but this was still a down year for Iowa. But, I will say that beating teams like that will heighten this program when given the opportunity, especially from a perception standpoint. When we play an Ole Miss or even an upper level G5 school, we have to capitalize. The fact that Iowa was our first P5 win in 14 years (last P5 win was against Mississippi State(?) in 2002/2003) speaks volumes on how far we have to go in order to rationalize on the perception of being a legitimate contender as a basketball program.
