Thanks for posting this Mike.
Wow! No rpi next year.
Wonder what the new metrics will be.
Mike, the powderpuff schedule we've been forced to watch under Marlin are his, not the SBC. He's had enough time to schedule better even if it's more road games. There's a lotta non class time between Thanksgiving and the start of the spring semester, so there's that.
Not sure what this comment means in regards to his comments on the new SBC scheduling. I agree we should have played at least one more road game in the past vs two non D1 schools. Hope people are finally recognizing we will not get more attractive games at home other than through the alliance. It will have to be more road games to improve SOS.
Another solution would be to win and make some more NCAA tournament appearances. Give the bigger schools a reason to come. We see it in the diamond sports every year. Bigger schools come to Lafayette in those sports because our teams have a track record of success, and they know that it won't affect their RPI or SOS if they lose. If our basketball team can replicate a season similar to the one we had this past year and not only make the tournament, but win some games; we may see a team or two from the P5 make a Cajundome appearance.
Playing the Cajuns would not negatively affect the RPI of most teams in most years. We got into the 30's last season before the late season health issues derailed things. We will never go to the extreme TSU does. Even with all their road games, they don't get any return visits. We may play one to two more road games than in the past going forward and if we do we will get paid for them. Of all the points put forward, I think the logic of getting to the NCAA tournament consistently and occasionally winning a game is the best way to get better non conference home games. Obviously that is extremely difficult to do. Georgia State has been the most consistent program in our league recently and they don't get teams to go to their place. Of course they play in a HS gym. We don't have that issue so we may have better luck. We are a long way from having that type of program but that should be the goal.
Texas southern basketball program has been so successful the coach Mike Davis has been negotiating to take over the program at Detroit mercy. Almost sounds like a high school. Tsu schedules so many road games because they are lucky to draw a 100 fans a game. They lose money after paying security and ushers or staff. With the exception of Millers crazy shot selection it sure seemed marlin got about everything he could out of last years squad. Was just unfair for Gant to become ill. He was a huge defensive presence. Team was not same without him.
We have to play a minimum of 14 home games per year. The new conference schedule plus a home game from the alliance gives us 11 each year.
