After winning a conference championship this past season and scoring 27 wins, some of those same people wanted Marlin fired because we dared to lose a game in the conference tournament. They now use the "one NCAA appearance in eight years" as their reasoning.

Bob Marlin is the head coach. He's going to get a contract extension. That is due, in part, to finishing toward the top of the league in four of the last five seasons. It is also due, in part, to reaching the conference tournament semifinals in three of the last five years. It is also due, in part, to continued success in the classroom.

When Coach Marlin made his "it all comes down to three days in March" comment, people on this board vilified him and talked about regular season success. And, to reiterate, some of those same people pooh poohed 27 wins because there was a blip during three days in March.

Those particular people will always find things to complain about as long as Bob Marlin is coaching here.

While all that is true, I would say it has even more to do with the FUTURE he has built for this program. This wasn’t a “one and done” season. We have high level recruits and redshirts coming in that will be able to step up and perform at the same high level for the next few years.

Marlin deserves every penny of that new contract.

Personally, I think an incentive-based contract is justified. And I love the fact that we are winning ~20 games. It's definitely improved since he first arrived here in 2010. So then the question comes, where do we go from here? Do we continue this track with no tournament appearances?

I love the fact that he runs a clean program, and the guys that play for him are all good guys who stay out of trouble. I've gotten the chance to meet a few of them. But eventually, we won't be able to set the bar to where we want to go as a program just by having a bunch of good kids in the classroom and finishing in the top half of our conference. It's an ongoing evolution process to where eventually, tournament appearances will be demanded. This past year was definitely a great start on where we want to go. The question is whether or not we would be able to continue that track and not take a step back.

Hopefully, the new buyout is half a pack a trident layers and a deflated basketball.

Cut men and women's basketball and transfer the schollys to wrestling

All we need is a few mats and DC to be the HC

Lucky it's still a holiday week or we'd already be there.

This tells me Maggard believes Marlin is on the right track with his recent recruiting "success". I don't see how this could be anything other than a vote of confidence going into the early off-season we are likely to be headed for with Marquetti's injury. But then again, what do I know, except that 2023 will be sweet!!!!

I'll take the under, unless Cajun Vic , rebel, krazy, MAT etc get active, then a record may be set...

Get rid of Marlin, and his program will go down to the basement of the Sunbelt Conference. In fact, this contract extension should involve a 25% raise, if we’re smart.
