Baseball Coach or Life Coach

It’s a bad recipe having a successful, tenured coach who is still relatively young on staff??...that is 2 years removed from great success...and has had a hiccup for 2 consecutive seasons, one including a conference championship without his all-American??...yeah, maybe it’s time we put him out to pasture...

So what would be your suggestion(s) of fixing this thing then? I think everyone agrees that there are issues that are manifesting themselves into poor play, coaching and recruiting. I'm sure there are a few things you see that need to be done?

Two different arguments. No one here advocates the status quo. Other than Talbot's family, everyone wants him to be fired. A new coach has to happen and if he is retained, Robe needs to state why and handle the justified criticism.
As for continuing to build off success, that is the goal but it is almost never achieved. Programs like ours are not able to just reload, because we are not getting the sure fire talent. We do get some very good players, but we are not consistently attracting the talent of an SEC or ACC team. I am not happy with how this year played out, but I will be curious to see how the current players improve. That has alway been the key to our success.

What exactly do you people mean when you say “programs like ours”? You mean, programs in the most talent rich area in America? Programs in the south, where baseball is still the most popular youth sport and still second most popular sport to football? Maybe you mean G5, which I’m pretty sure coastal Carolina barely qualifies for, yet they are 2 years removed from a National Championship and are hosting again this year...

I mean G5 schools. None of them are perennial powerhouses. They all have down years. Heck, look how mediocre Georgia and Alabama are. Even they can’t contend every year. Let’s see how this plays out. I think we just need to find a couple of diference makers and we are right back to where we all want to be. I just don’t buy the notion that we are some special program that can easily reload every year. Even the powerhouse programs have bad stretches.

Life lessons or not, this is my personal belief from a baseball fan perspective only.

My biggest issue with Tony has been the lack of consistency. It seems that after we have a very successful season, we tend to take a step or two backwards, see the 2001 season as well as the 2011 and 2012 seasons and the last 3 years. This program had success before Tony. We are in a talent rich state. We have one of the best fan bases in America (see attendance number over the last decade or so). We have a palace to play in. I understand that we don't attract SEC type caliber players every year, but we should be able to attract talent just below that level, and then develop the talent. There is absolutely zero excuse for UL not to be in post season 4 out of every 5 years, period.

Well the truth is, like Coastal, we are a unique program. Culture, attendance, geography. All ideal. We play in a conference that is good enough to not hurt your RPI, but allows teams to get on runs in the middle of the season. I’m willing to give the new ballpark some time to actually bare fruit, but regardless, we play in a top flight ball park in America. We have an excellent reputation in college baseball, on the field and off he field. Our fans travel and do a very good job of it. We are the top supported baseball program in America (not named LSU, Florida, or Texas) from a media standpoint. I could go on..

Are we going to come up short from time to time? Everyone does. Should we not expect to be a contender for league, regional and super regional championships every year? Based on everything above, you bet your ___ we should.

Me wanted him gone if things don’t change is much more reasonable than you saying he should be retained without knowing the future. This program is trending in the wrong direction and has all but completely failed to capitalize on the 2014 success. My point in bringing up the life lessons coaching style is what I believe is taking priority over executing on the field. Therefore, it is very relevant.

Just curious...Weren’t you the poster who threw all your support to baseball when the Hud/ Trump mess went down?...something like you only wanted to support programs that were ran clean???....apologize in advance if I have you mistaken...

Take a look at this. This is comparing to half a dozen teams that should never be in postseason play. Not teams that we are aiming to be. Very concerning and no one should feel like their job is safe.

In 2015 we followed up our '14 SR appearance (one of the best seasons in NCAA history for any team) with another SR appearance and then hosted a regional in '16. Here is hoping that we get back on track with that "trend".

Well from a fan who just donates, attends and listens to games with no access to factual inside info...I’d say hitting HAS to improce...what needs to be done to make that happen...I don’t know...I trust the man with 1,000 plus victories to have more of a PROFESSIONAL take on what that will take...

I was done with Hud for more reasons than just that. It may have been the last straw but I wasn't raising hell for the Trump issue alone.
