TCU missed the postseason this year as did the almighty Deggs. TCU’s program is light years ahead of us. For people to say it is not acceptable for our program to miss a regional every now and then is absurd. ____t happens.

It’s not acceptable to continually not build off the success of the program. It’s not acceptable to see a downward trend but then continue the status quo because JT has a rough 2017 year. Loyalty to a fault.

TCU has been to 4 straight CWS tournaments. Yea the draft probably hit them, but I promise they’ll be back in 2019. Will we though?

I never said get rid of him that is ridiculous, but he needs to be held accountable for subpar seasons. People on this board think he can do no wrong and those that say anything negative about him are idiots.

One of my favorite things about this board is that no topic is too sensitive. We've taken on admin, University Presidents, finances, capital improvements, the media, abuse, scandal, etc etc.. Again, you all know where I stand. Robe has been a part of my family's lives, in one way or another, for 30 years. However, I don't think it's out of bounds to ask the question, just where our staff's collective heads are, including the boss.

Where I think the train derails is when people start dismissing Robe loyalists. And look, there are some that do tolerate things based on their relationship with Tony. I fully acknowledge that. But, it's a small minority. The overwhelming majority of guys that are close to our program have a very healthy respect for what Tony has done, will support him in tough times, but at the end of the day, realize it's about the FDL, it's about the program, it's about results.

I'd be lying if I didn't say there were murmurs this season. Not because people think Tony has lost it, but because our fans know what good baseball looks like. The quality of baseball, regardless of winning and losing, has been significantly down, the type of player is different and the type of personality is DRAMATICALLY different (almost opposite).

I'm willing to listen to the criticisms, because I think it's healthy and I think they are warranted right now. But we have to be able compartmentalize what we've been seeing.

TCU has missed postseason twice in 15 years. Oh and 4 straight CWS. Apples to oranges. Then you go to the opposite end of the spectrum. SHSU is in a one bid league. Apples to oranges.

Coastal got hit by the draft after the cws and bounced back in two years to host. That should be the standard.

I’ve got a fun story for you guys about “detailed” hitting coaches and how they ruin/waste hitters. Granted this is a story from high school, I still feel it holds relevance with what we’re seeing from the micromanager that is Talbot. We were always trained on hit and run to hit the ball on the ground the other way (6 hole for a lefty, 4 hole for a righty) due to the probability of that guy covering 2nd for the runner. I was pinch hitting in a game we were down by one run late in the game. Hit and run was called and I got a pitch middle in that I could handle. I wound up drilling a ball in the right center gap (I’m a lefty) for a double that scored the runner from first. I was then pinch ran for, chewed and cursed out for not hitting it oppo, and benched for the remainder of the season (also had to run punish laps) These are the sort of things micromanaging coaches do. They aren’t worried about results, and often want to take all the credit for “building a hitter in their mold” rather than coaching to the strengths of the players they have.

Thanks for sharing. I have no doubt your situation happens more often than we know. One thing I have noticed over the past 20 years is how similar everyone’s swing is now. Back when I started following college baseball in the 80’s you would see a lot of different stances, swings and approaches. Now they all look the same. I think as the money has gotten so good in coaching your are seeing more and more micro managers who are trying to move up the food chain for a big payday.

How many ____ing times do I have to say I don’t want him fired. With that being said, NO ONE should be using the fact that he won’t look for another job as a positive thing.

You may not want him fired today...but if he doesn’t change his approach, you’re insinuating that you DO want him gone...you said in OP you want him to talk baseball, not life lessons...well guess what...he ain’t changing....and if you’re rebuttal will be you want him to win...then his life-lessons coaching style is irrelevant and shouldn’t have been brought up to begin with...only on-field results should have...

Stance, load, and swing have been becoming generalized in most hitting programs since the late 90's. It is getting implemented in baseball camps with young kids. That's why you see guys by the time they are in high school and college have similar styles.

You still see international players with unique stances and loads. Although the swing when broken down itself is pretty similar across the board.
