I think that is a recruiting fault. We had mentally tough guys in 2015 and 2016, but most were not Talbot's recruits, but leftovers from his predecessor.

Still, Robe is the top man and it is his responsibility to get that fixed.

2. Players cared more about what they wore than the game ( Robe even said this )

That is more of a product of the schedule than mental toughness

Went 4-7 to start the season & did not win series until April 7th but at least we did not lose 3 in a row!

Lahare was the alpha. We just don't have enough alphas.

Yeah, I think mentally tough is not the most accurate phrase. Mental toughness comprises many things. What we are talking about is attitude which is a subsegment of overall mental toughness. I think our guys were resilient this year, but did not have a alpha/killer attitude and instinct. We have a lot of quiet nonassuming guys.

You did not see many dominating performances. We were good at outlasting opponents, but when our opponents turned over onto their back and showed us their throat, we didn't take it. You didn't see any of our pitchers get a big strikeout and stare down the other team. You didn't see our guys hit a bomb and stare down their pitcher or dug out. These little things are small, but are the characteristics of teams that will rip your throat out when they get the opportunity.
