Here we go.
I’d rather have some Omaha appearances than be touting this stat any day. Maybe We should point out that we made it once 18 years ago and it’s time to be honest with ourselves. We are a solid mid major. If you are ok with that, fine. But if we claim to run with the big boys, we need to be playing ball when only 8 teams remain at some point. We had the pitching the last 3-4 years to do so with nothing to show for it. It really is nothing personal. Just time to step it up or admit who we are.
Putting it "all" together in any single year is hard.
Winning consistently over an extended period of time is even harder.
Is it really? Serious question. Wouldn't it make logical sense that, if it [58 wins] was so important to the overall perception of our program we would have made waves with it in the form of better and better recruits? If that's the case, then why has our hitting gotten progressively worse over the last 3 years?
I haven't chimed in yet on the failure to announce a new hitting coach, but I'm going to right now, and then, I'm going to forget about it until the start of the new season. I'm sure I'll pizz some people off, but I really give zero f#$Ks.
There better be a damn good reason why a new hitting coach hasn't been announced. If this is Tony being arrogant/stubborn to prove a point that he is the big d**k, and nobody is going to tell him how to run his program, etc., etc., then that's a pretty sh*&&Y way to treat your fans/supporters. At a minimum, he/UL should have come out days ago and said, "We are in the process of hiring a new hitting coach, and are just finalizing the details of the agreement and staff changes. An official announcement will be made by _____."
I'll still buy my 4 season tickets as I have over the last 15 years, but I would really like a little more respect as a tax payer/stockholder of the program.
Excellent and very real analogy. Key statement being "be honest with ourselves". Nice to be in that elite group of 10 over the last 6 seasons. Awesome. Wonderful. Now ask yourself this question, who out of the other 9 teams could we beat 2 out of 3 on a weekend ? I know "it's baseball and anything can happen" but we aren't one quarter of what those other programs are right now. Oh, but we have a nice stadium. We had a chance to build off of 2013 thru 2016...............We s%$t the bed on doing so. We've gone backwards in fact. We didn't build off of 2000. Instead, we fail to make the conference tournament the following year in 2001. Who does that ? How does that happen to a program coming off of an Omaha season ? I totally agree, we are a "solid mid-major". But that's it folks. No more, no less and we'll see about less real soon. 2019 is going to tell a whole lot about the future and where this program is heading. Right now, lets just focus on winning a conference and beating Coastal Carolina because as long as they're in the Sunbelt, they're the target, not us any longer.
And for those keeping score, I have heard from multiple sources that Talbot will still be "helping" with the hitters along with his recruiting coordinator duties. Can you say "Co-Hitting Coaches" ? I guess this is kind of like the stray dog you feed once and he keeps coming back. Can't get him off the porch.
