I'm going to disagree with that, T. Since Boutte, (four years), the Cajuns have only had a few JC pitchers besides Schmidt. Five to be exact.

    Will Bacon 7-3, 1 save. 3.29 ERA 89K/106.2 innings
    Eric Carter 7-3, 4 saves, 2.62 ERA 86K/72 innings
    Jevin Huval 3-3, 3 saves, 3.27 ERA 65K/72.2 innings

In his only healthy season, Colton Lee was 2-3, 3 saves 3.40 era 42K/42.1 innings.

The other JUCO was Grant Cox this past season.

You can't tell me these guys didn't make some significant contributions to the pitching staff. Hopefully Cox will be better next year.

Bacon and Huval at times were decent, neither were special. Carter came on strong after his first year here, but none had the major impact of Schmidt who become our #1 this past season. The impact of our JC players in the past few seasons have been marginal at best. I don't agree with people that say our HS recruiting has been bad, not according to the offers that many of them had when they signed with UL. JMO

We didn't expect these guys to be All-Americans like Schmidt. None came in with his pedigree.

They did what they were supposed to do, provide quality bullpen depth. They did that. To downplay what they did because they weren't Colten Schmidt isn't quite fair. They weren't expected to be.

just because they couldn’t beat out gunner leger, Evan guillory, Wyatt marks, Hogan Harris etc doesn’t make them bad, they did what we needed them to do. If you are looking for JC pitchers to become your number one then you probably missed on a lot of high school guys.

I've watched the job posting boards on the UL website and the NCAA market website. Not once since May 25 has a job been posted for an assistant baseball coach here. But we do have an opening for an assistant track coach right now.

They fed you bad info as an excuse for why the ____ this has taken nearly 2 months.

All of the JC's with exception of Schmidt were brought in specifically to add quality depth to the bullpen. None were expected to be a starter or a closer, although all recorded some saves while at UL.

Those guys did EXACTLY what they were recruited to do. And, overall, did very well.

I never said they were brought in to compete as starters, they were signed for specific roles. Overall they competed in the SBC, but at times were good and bad in those roles. Outside of Carter, they were good, just nothing special. Again, I said the last 3 seasons.

Hmm.....can you hire for a position without the position being open? Something isn't right here.

Let me be clear in my statement, over the past 3 seasons we didn't have great help from JC pitchers outside of Schmidt and Carter to be exact. Huval was fine at times, but sometimes the moment was too big for him. Bacon gave up more hits than innings pitched, at times he looked like a coach pitching batting practice. His ERA was deceiving his last year because is was over 5.00 past mid season. Yes, they were signed for specific roles and filled them well at times, but they weren't program changing and nowhere close to Carter or Dylan Moore. Those two were deadly at the back end.

If we are going to elevate this program, we must sign better than Bacon and Huval, or develop younger arms to fill those roles. Neither had a ton of offers coming to UL. JMO

According to civil service rules I believe coaches are considered "unclassified" and not subject to the rules concerning open postings. I know in the past I've seen some coaching jobs posted and others not posted.
