robe has always used the bunt and we have plenty of successful offenses. You are trying to apply one exceptionally bad offense to a theory that’s it the bunt. You are correct exceptions do apply and last year was an exception. We weren’t even really good at bunting. We just weren’t good at the plate or the base paths.
Just to clarify for those who are internet-challenged and have no idea how to research individuals on said "internet". Jake Wells is not "from" Campbell. He merely coached there for 1 season, and in doing so, took them to their first ever Regional appearance. If you want a full picture of who Jake Wells is, how about you view his Alabama Crimson Tide introduction article from when he was hired there with Goff... https://rolltide.com/coaches.aspx?rc=578
In it, you will find lots to get excited about. If in fact, this guy would be our next hitting coach.
I have no insider info but I have loved baseball for a long time. Not sure I would hire them, but would definitely consider/interview Coaches Barbier and Dugas from NW La. The head coach and hitting coach respectively both represented Louisiana well in Corvallis for the regionals.
I researched it and he's "from Campbell". He coached at Campbell in the 2018 season. One year. Don't try and sugarcoat the possible hire with the infamous SEC background BS. Yes he was at Bama, he was at La. Tech and did a good job at both but his most recent position was at Campbell. It's all good. If he's the guy, I hope he comes in here and is lights out awesome. We'll see.
The only time we have “bunt first” is when we can’t hit. Don’t want to “bunt first”? Or the bunt to take away your swagger? Then hit the f’n ball. The man is still trying to win anyway he can. The teams that hit could still bunt...it didn’t go away. 2 of our best teams with the most swagger could all bunt. You either have attitude or you don’t, if a bunt takes that away then you don’t have it

Last year’s team just didn’t have any and that has a lot to do with if they bought in to the system and trust guy calling it. When the guy on third calls for a bunt you need the guy in the box to believe and trust that’s what best for the team to win. When an entire lineup proves over and over they can’t get a guy from first to second by putting the ball in play you going to see a lot of bunts. It’s not like they didn’t have their chances to keep the bat in their hands. I promise you whoever they interviewed or gets the job will be someone who believes in the bunt.
I want Jake Gautreau only if he puts the X back where it belongs!
