Thread: Could the Ragin’ Cajuns be getting a new football stadium?

For some of y’all who don’t live in reality and want a 40,000 plus football stadium, because bigger is better right? Y’all all wanted to trash the euro soccer designs and capacity. I have flown over this stadium at 100’ above the opening and it is the most incredible stadium I’ve ever seen, which fits our program and budget. But hey y’all can keep living in la la land thinking we could build a 45,000 seat stadium and get that big P5 invite.

We could bounce beams back and forth from the LITE Center with that thing.

We can call them the egg and the omelet.

With a stadium like that we probably get some National Publicity on it.

Especially when it blows away in a hurricane.

Who are you talking to C4L? I like you brother... but a fly over doesn't warrant the criticism. Research this and provide greater detail. I visited the link and read about this stadium. We have many, many options if we went with a new stadium at a new location. Modern structures, features and designs are evolving (beyond this 2012 design). If we started from a clean sheet, we'd get whatever we wanted that we could afford. You need to tour these stadiums and decide if what made it cost what it costs still fits our 30 year outlook. It may. No offense... but it's like sitting in a Batman movie and having your kid say, "Dad, our next car should be a Batmobile... they're freaking cool!".

All right, son, it is really cool... I'll look into it with your mom and see if it's both "cool" and can haul groceries, isn't just a loud engine wrapped in plastic, and not cost $800 for an oil change.

Other than it being voted one of the the best new stadiums in the world by a panel of archatecture firms, what wrong with it?

    It’s too different?

It’s not up to our visions of grandeur?

    It only seats 35,000?

We deserve a better stadium that a measily soccer stadium?

P5 programs aren’t expanding their stadiums, they are building for fan experience. Creature comforts and atmosphere is what matters. That stadium would sound like the Superdome after Bret Baer’s FG if it were full. It’s a damn echo chamber with incredible sight lines. It would keep the sun from beating down on a majority of the crowd for early games.

More importantly we can afford a stadium like that. All of y’all want to bash those type of stadiums, yet you’d prefer a 60% increase in capacity while our attendance decreases by 10% each year. That makes all the sense I. The world.

Who is all of y'all? I've never commented on a stadium like this. The only arguments on size of seating capacity have been about the upgrade of Cajun Field. If we modernize it, then there is a) no "soccer stadium style redesign" to choose from, b) the stadium doesn't have to have the additional seating immediately (only provisions for expansion), and c) it is supposed to be modernized.

We all want a more modern stadium. If there's land and a construction design that is better suited for us, has all of the modern features of a "modern soccer stadium"... most fans would love it. Are you advocating we tear down Cajun Field... build your new stadium over a 3-4 year period... relocate UL football during that span (to where and at what cost?)?

I'm trying to figure out who you're trying to argue with. I don't know about this big "y'all" that wouldn't entertain a modern stadium... if it's a plausible option. I certainly am concerned about it structurally at first glance... with respect to high winds. I could be wrong about that. But that was one of my first concerns. The cost of having what you linked... with what may be required structurally for south Louisiana... may not be one and the same.

But again... who do you think you're kicking in the butt about "modern soccer stadiums"? If we can come up with the cheese for a modern design... a place to build it... then everything is on the table. I do not think anyone on here is blowing and going about becoming a P5 conference member much lately. If studies, that accompany stadium designs, show that we are clearly heading for depreciating attendance... then most would hold to an under 40k design (new or upgraded). I've seen no hard facts on new designs or what the targets should be. Articles are a plenty. Facts are not.

I don't know if this has been posted yet but here is BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. It has a similar wrap around design but with better airflow, much cheaper design/materials, and being in Houston it was built to withstand a hurricane.

This is soooo much better than the generic G5 football stadium with an upper deck and press box on one side. This is a "statement" stadium.

I don't mind the soccer stadium approach, but don't build something that looks really cool now and looks extremely outdated in 10 short years, I think that's where everyone is being short sighted. Build 35k now with the ability to expand need be in the future. That's all.

There will Never be a need to expand greater than 35k here. NEVER. What are some of you people smoking? Only time there was that need here was when Southern brought 20k people. Now every game is on a 70 inch TV in Joe Blow's living room. I don't care who plays at Cajun Field in the future. 40k seats is more than enough.
