The only way is to partner with the city like UAB their stadium is around $150 mill.

Temporary Tax. Like the airport. Get public support and interest. Bill it as the new jewel of Lafayette. People will flock to see what's new in town (especially in lafayette). While they're here, we'll treat them to some winning football. It's brilliant.

Also, start charging all the events here (Mardi Gras, Car Show, etc) what they need to be charged, and make more $$$ to pay for it.

And sell the naming rights: I always thought Tabasco Cajun Field had quite a ring to it, and those folks have BILLIONS.

I think we've barked up that tree and they weren't willing to pay what we wanted.

Harris? Maybe that 'feasiblity' part Napier was talking about is based on wonderful things starting to happen here in the very near future.

The city could use it for the football state championship ...Superdome might be too expensive for LHSAA very soon

Another is using it for a stadium concert much like Rock on the Range

Lastly, an MLS division 2 team could be brought to Lafayette using the stadium

It’ll be crazy if we did build a new stadium.

    This thread might be epic!

If we are upside down, financially, with Cajun Field, why in the hell did we build the SEZ?!

Football stadiums are tough because you cant use them for too many things and there aren’t that many games compared to other sports. Some HS football, a BIG concert, marching band shows etc would generate small revenue streams. If I remember correctly closing in the end zone was done so there would be seats while the main press box area got done. If that doesn’t happen, the money was squandered.

Then again, I don’t know who wrote this article and how much credibility to give it.

Someone mentioned a 40k seat stadium. That would be ideal

Ok we build a press box that doesn’t exceed 51% of the total cost of the structure, Press box would be a new project right? SEZ is one, and press box is another?

I feel that I can say with confidence that this city will never vote in a new tax like that. The council has trouble getting any new tax passed even when it will help the schools, drainage and libraries due our very conservative base here. I think that is a dead end.
