I would definitely consider soft drinks and water/lemonade. It’s easy money. At the end of the day, when we loan our land to outside entities, we have to ask “what does it take to make every dollar that I can?”
As an athletic program, we don’t have the leverage of just lending our property for cheap. We are trying to grow our budget in an attempt to grow the brand and move conferences. Sometimes, that means milking as much as we can on the way out.
Guys...why would anyone in their right mind buy soft drinks and lemonade from a concession stand when every car dealer has free water, coffee, beverages, popcorn, etc. under their tent for prospective buyers??....it would be more of a headache than anything for the university to go through all the trouble of paying people, set-up time, etc.
"NO CONCESSIONS BROUGHT IN" would be in the contract and we require each car dealer to purchase concession tickets from us if they want their customers to have same for free. It may cost them a little more but they would not have the hassle of each bringing that stuff in.
I’m all for charging more for use of facility...but these concession ideas are terrible for not only the dealers...but the customers...imagine you’re walking around and want a water and the dealer says here’s your coupon...buuuuuutttt you have to walk across the parking lot to redeem it...
It's just another thing the administration can look into along with all the other things brought out in the two day thread on the issue to make an evaluation on whether we are getting sufficient value for the event and whether there are other options available that reasonably bring additional revenue to the university. Can't always think within the box. It gets clostophobic in there.
