Beating LSU is not just because we dislike them, or the fact they are a in-state rival, every time we win one of these games specially at a regional they are hosting we are helping increase our fan base. There is a segment of the population that supports LSU because they are the top dog in Louisiana, well anytime we can show that we are better on the athletic field we are shifting fans that may have went to UL or from this region that support LSU to support UL.
Specially after all the softball program has went through, it would be a way to show that no matter what this program has went through, that we are a contender Nationally , and in this state. We are here to stay!
We got to beat Houston first.
Geaux Louisiana!! Geaux Cajuns!!!
I'm more of a casual Softball fan, really paying attention only because of how great our UL program has been over the years and it has drawn me to it. Just my opinion, but I'm very proud of this years team and they have surpassed what I thought could happen. The future looks bright. Winning at BR would be nice icing.
Geaux UL!
I think as a athletic dept. we are making head way, every time we make it to the post season in basketball, baseball, softball they always like to pair us up. I say right on selection committee please do it!! We have created a situation that when we are paired up that it is always a game and we will compete!!
Let's not shy away from it, what they really doing is creating opportunity for our program in this state. LSU can't do anything about it but what, flash ULL on the scoreboard thinking it is hurting us.
What do you think happen in that NIT game? I honestly think someone at LSU told Will Wade you do not lose to these lowly Cajuns. He coached and acted like his job was on the line. Guarantee someone in that athletic department said something to him. We need to make every effort to beat LSU in any sport when we play.
Hell they probably talking to LSU softball coach right now, probably shoved her in a room and gave her a ultimatum, you better not lose, talking about how important this regional is, and how you are expected to win against these ULLLLL Oh LALA wannabes.
Someone please help me understand how LSU has control of the scoreboard to put ULL . I thought this game and regional was controlled by the NCAA, who has agreed to call us by Louisiana and LA. If Dr. Maggard sent a letter to the NCAA requesting they place Louisiana or LA on the scoreboard, could LSU overrule the NCAA? Or if the formal request was released to the public prior to the game and LSU arbitrarily made the decision not to follow the NCAA usage of our legal brand, would there be damage to our branding efforts?
Or is this not the battle to fight at this time?
We have made major headway on a national level. It appears Louisiana is accepted just about everywhere and by every network now ... except in the state of Louisiana outside of Lafayette. We also do still have a problem with an acronym for the university. LA has not yet fully caught on. I still see ULL used a lot. I think they want to call us UL, but we don't use that, so they revert to ULL. Saying LA vs. UL doesn't sound right. We need some kind of resolution to this. And, we need to figure out a way to get the rest of the state to accept our use of and recognize us as Louisiana.
LSU has always done it this way to spite us on purpose. As far as it being an NCAA regional, I don't think the NCAA cares that much especially at the hands of a school like LSU, who makes a lot of money for them.
Now, as far as ESPN and other media outlets, that's where the battle is won. The thousands of people watching the game on tv aren't going to see what's on the scoreboard inside the park. But they will see a big, bold "LOUISIANA" plastered across the bottom of their tv screens.
I appreciate your efforts into making this name thing become a reality.
With that being said, our own university has sometimes unintentionally shafted us with our acronym (remember UL-L a few years back?). The marketing department will have to find a way to consolidate ideas and stick with an abbreviation. Plus, our backwards state legislature decided to put in that "LSU Rule" that no school can officially use the abbreviation "UL" on any type of documentation. Again.......backwards state. So in that regard, it will take a little longer for the rest of the state to recognize us by that abbreviation and the name itself.
This is definitely a process. As long as we promote the brand and continue the success, the name will catch on with everyone.
