How Nick Saban's Alabama 'Process' is being channeled in Cajun Country

Troy has been FBS since 2001. They have wins over Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma State and LSU. Just off of last season, they should be crushing recruiting.

stAte only has a win over Texas A&M in 2008, but they have a string of conference championships and a string of getting their head coach hired by P5 programs.

We have had facilities, Bowl games and lots of silly, geeked up unis for the recruits to see.

What works?

That is exactly my point. I know we play in a ____ conference but its the same one that ASU and Troy play in and they've done well in recruiting, consistently, for years. This is the common thread needed for All of our programs here to develop success. Above uniforms, name changes and upgrades to facilities if you win and do it consistently, your personnel will improve.

We've been there done that. I'll get more excited once I've actually seen Napier in action and how good of a recruiter he is. I'm optimistic but I'm also guarded. Football costs have gone up in recent years while play on the field and player retention have been going down. Until Napier shows me something on the field, its all talk at this point. I think we've all been there with football for some time and I just know, speaking for myself, that I'm maxed out in contributing until we've seen more on the field success and that includes basketball as well.

Couldn’t agree more. I’ll have to see the product he puts on the field before I get too excited. I’m hopeful he can do it but make no mistake, the odds of having sustained success here are stacked against him.

He won’t have sustained success here..if he has success he will be gone with his pedigree and connections. Hopefully he builds it for sustained success.

It's a nice story, and in the future, we may look back and say....yeah, that's how the success started. But, for now, it's more hype than reality. It's fantastic that our "behind the scenes" situation has improved, and it should pay off in the coming years. Success is complicated.
Coach Napier has to show the sought after recruits and parents of those recruits that he has a program that they want to be a part of, then turn around and show the fans how that will translate on the field into X's & O's and then into wins. It's exciting to watch it unfold.
I cringe a little when I see others using SBC teams as a goal to successful programs. They have had a little local success, but not on a national scale. We must aim higher or we are wasting our time.

If he can get every position player to grade out at 90% each for the snaps that they are in the game we will win more than we lose. That’s the Bama way as well. They always put execute the other team on the field. Sure they have great talent, but so does LSU, tOSU, OU and Clemson.

If Napier makes teams beat us by out executing us then I’m fine with it. It’s ok to get beat by a better team when you’ve played well, that’s fine, but under Hudspeth we blew games. I’m not just talking about one or two either. We blew roughly 8 games his last two seasons.

Development, Discipline, Expectation, Execution, Nutrition, Coaching Staff Level Across the Board, Allowing Positions Coaches to Coach - should all raise the level of play across the board. This team will now have a much better chance to win, even with the talent level which they have.

Nobody is using Troy and ASU as a goal. They were used as a measuring stick and example that you can have success in recruiting even if you play in the suckbelt.

HUD was his own worst enemy. After getting the big pay raise, he turned himself into an undesirable before he cashed out to another gig on his own success.

He didn't cash out on anything. He was fired and is now a positional coach.

Read my post. I know it is difficult for you. He turned himself into an undesirable BEFORE he cashed out to another gig on his own success, i.e., he did not cash in on another gig because he made himself undesirable. So as an undesirable, he is now a positional coach (tight ends, no doubt). I believe the only reason he got that job was not to coach but to be mined by a new staff for his Mississippi contacts.
