Even finishing strong and losing in the championship, IMO, doesn’t get us firmly in. In fact, if some of our midweek opponents finish poorly, I know for a fact it won’t be good enough.

I agree. If you look at the six conferences ranked ahead of us in RPI right now I estimate there are 28 teams worthy of an at-large bid. It would help us out if we didn't end up with a bunch of stolen bids in these leagues. I'm not too concerned with the SEC or ACC but the B12, B10, P12 and American certainly have teams that could make a run in their tournaments and punch a ticket that they otherwise would not get.

This is obviously true for a number of conferences below us as well. The bottom line is that if we don't win the tournament I think we need help from the outside. Meaning "stolen bids" are kept to a minimum this year.

    Win the tournament

The Cajuns can work their way into a bid.

Troy has a good RPI but is in fourth place in the east. And, they do not have a good record against the RPI top 50. They blew a chance to make a statement last night against Miss. St.

South has played their way off the bubble.
    A few things ...

Agreed that the Sun Belt would likely receive one bid if the season ended today. That said ...

The Cajuns have the same conference record as #5 seed Troy ... and are currently the #6 seed. Even if the Cajuns win the West and are the #2 seed ... the selection committee is going to look at conference record, not tournament seeding.

Yes, Troy is only 3-8 vs. the RPI Top 50 ... but 3-7 of that is vs. the RPI Top 25 ... and 0-4 of that is vs. the top 8. Additionally, if the Cajuns do what we need them to do (move into the RPI Top 50), that will improve Troy's RPI Top 50 (as Troy took 2/3 from the Cajuns).

Troy is in the thick of it (just outside the bubble) and has a chance (like the Cajuns) to get on the inside. Upcoming games vs. #6 Auburn, conference finish, and the conference tournament is an opportunity for them ... as it is for the Cajuns.

We got to Omaha because of our pitching. We did very well in Omaha because of our hitting. That year we set offensive records. This is not one of those years.
the bolded part is the same as the world series. the world series is just two (4) team regionals with a best of three finals (weekend series)

You're right. I had a brain cramp on that one.

So, why are we still giving an autobid to a winner of an outdated, archaic, 10 team jumbo tournament?

    Talk about stupid.

Fair enough. How do you think we would stand if we win out, rest of the season, and lose on Sunday to Coastal?

We win the last 2 series and 2 more in the tournament, we good.....unless a bunch of scrubs start winning autobids.

I think we have a much stronger case at that point, but still not a lock. If our best wins crater down the stretch, we’re in a bad spot.

I think we need to understand that the Texas St series is going to be a dogfight. They have a Friday guy (like everyone), two good bullpen guys that could pitch for anyone and play well at home. I always like our chances with Schmidty and Hogie on the hill, but It’s still a conference road series against a decent opponent with something on the line.

Also, has anyone checked Tulane’s RPI lately?

At this point every game is a must win since the other two teams are worse in the RPI

ECU is a pretty good team so that’s probably why they didn’t drop much further
