Already made hotel reservations.
I'm sorry, but I long for bigger and better bowl games. Been there done that....like 80 times already
I long for bigger and better bowls as well.
....but we would need an undefeated (or one loss season) to get to anything better than the NOLA Bowl due to Sunbelt tie-ins.
So until we have that perfect season or get out of the Sunbelt, the reality is the NOLA Bowl is where we are most likely headed.
I'm looking for a winning season and a bowl game next year heading into 2020 when we open up in the Super Dome with Miss State. We might bring 50,000+ to that game. Then, it could be the start of UL opening up every year in the Dome vs. a P5 school. Call it the Louisiana Classic. The Dome loves us, our fans love us, and the rest of the nation will come to love us. It will change our perception nationally and lead to greater things for UL athletics.
I’m okay with the Nola Bowl this year.
After a few losing seasons, I ll take any improvement.
We go over this stuff every year.
It's great to aspire for "bigger" bowls. I get it. The rub is that it's really not up to us. If a G5 goes undefeated they may go to a New Years six. Maybe even 12-1 with a win in their conference championship. Otherwise, you're stuck with your conference Bowl tie ins and may luck out like ULM did a few years ago and end up in a semi-recognizable Independence Bowl due to circumstance.
Troy went 10-2 in the regular season last year with a win @ LSU and very good. Where did they go? NOLA. App was 9-3 the year before and very good also. Where did they go? Montgomery, AL. This is the reality of the situation, guys.
Out of all of the Sunbelt tie ins, which bowl game location is the best? Orlando, Tucson and Mobile are nice and all, but the answer is NOLA and the others are not very close as far as travel, fan experience, game experience, etc. go. I'll take NOLA every year until we're playing on New Years Day.
I predicted 10-2 for the 2017 season, and we were honestly a few plays here and there from such being a possible reality. Had a few things gone our way and it happened, 12-0 would be the logical goal for this season.
We got impatient in the leadership of the team, though, and fired Hud. Kind of interrupting the team vibe a bit.
This coming season is going to be rough with some growing pains. The first 6 games will really tell the tale. If we can come out of there 2-4 with a revenge win over a staunch NM State team, we’ll have a good shot at being bowl eligible at the end of the season.
