Bingo. USC came first, then Coastal had another name and was a satellite campus of USC.

That's like the University of California at Berkeley Golden Bears. They opened up a satellite campus called the University of California at Los Angeles and named them the Bruins. The rest of the UC System schools then took on other names like Gauchos and Anteaters.
