so if they played other positions because they are athletes, they would be expected to get hit, and not get hurt.

This QB race will go right through the Grambling game.

Besides, I'll bet you'll see both remaining QB's play a lot this season.
You are probably right but I hope we have our starting QB set before Game 1. I hope someone grabs that position so there is no doubt.

What other position has the ball every play and is looking down field relying on other people to protect him? They are more exposed and more often than any other position. Only position even close is RB and they are usually built sturdier than QB’s and they stay hurt too.

Especially in the modern game. More pass attempts mean more times exposed. And more receivers in the pattern mean less people to protect.

Exactly and way more third and long situations where the defense pins their ears back. Babb and Dez were tough as nails but neither could finish a season healthy.

well that argument is flawed because they dont throw it down field every play, and surely dont get hit every play. IMO qbs of today are just ALOT softer than previously, and everyone feeds into that, only making them more soft.

those more pass attempts are really just extended hand offs in the modern game. no reads, get the ball and get it out quickly. they arent getting hit more because of more pass attempts.

like MAT said, we start protecting them way too early, and they think they are supposed to never see contact or get hit, and when they do they dont know how to react. they are soft

If you aren’t a “QB” and mainly depend on your legs and those legs are no longer effective you become a sitting duck who couldn’t really throw in the first place...you become completely inneffective. Dez was one of the toughest guys to ever play here but without his legs he wasn’t effective, Nothing to do with soft. A QB who can sling it and rarely runs can still be effective on a bad leg if he gets protection. A pocket passer with a bum shoulder isn’t soft..he is ineffective.

so, you are saying that you dont think the durability of the quarterback has diminished in the last 20-25 years?

What does that have to do with being tough? I think coaches lean too much towards guys who rely too much on running from the QB position and when they are slowed by a knee or ankle injury they become completely inneffective. Im sure there are a lot of guys tough enough to go out there for the 3 and out but is that what you think they should do? Is it productive? When half the pass plays come from the QB using his legs first and you take those legs away you have a problem.

i liken it to the pitch count with pitchers. some argue throwing more pitches early on in development helps to develop stamina in the arm and reduces the risk of injury. ive read where limited pitch counts lead to more injuries the older they get because they were never able to build the strength it takes to go out and throw 100-120 pitches an outing.
