First thing I thought when I saw this signing was filling the void off Julien's injury. Especially bringing in someone with JUCO experience, it gives the option to redshirt Julien if they need to and still have some scoring. I happened to see he was ranked as #67 JUCO player in the country.

If Brown goes elsewhere, which I think he will although I'm holding on to that glimmer of hope, I wouldn't be surprised if this was it and no other big was signed. There usually is only 4 active bigs on the roster and you already have that in Gant, Miller, McCoy, and Gladney. Also could be a 5th if they choose to play Kristian Lafayette next year. From what I have seen of Lafayette he looks skilled and has the height to be effective, he just looks like he could use a redshirt year to bulk up.

That said, Kudos to Marlin and his staff for putting up the good fight. Let's continue to build the program, get out of the SBC and maybe then we can start landing these big fish.
You would? I sure wouldn't. In fact I wouldn't push my kid into anything. I'd encourage him to make the best decision for himself, and going to a 'blue blood' school may or may not be his best option.

If a prestigious school like UNC was offering my kid a full scholarship he would have to present to me a pretty convincing case not to take it.
Brown looks to be an elite athlete that can handle the big stage. That is where he could maximize his talents. If he flames out its no big deal, many programs would offer him another opportunity. He is sitting on a lottery ticket and should use it.

So you're a dictator in your family. In any case UNC ceded all claims to being anything special with their academic scandals.

In fact if academics was important, I’d encourage my kid to an academic Ivy League scholly.

Please reread. I said he would have to make a compelling case. We had a discussion on another thread about peer institutions. UNC and UL are not peer institutions. UNC is a cut above academically and athletically.
I just went through this with my son this year. I was pushing him to go to UL. He want to go somewhere else. He will not be attending UL. So much for me being a dictator.

Been there. Oldest did research on colleges and at the time refineryville was in the 5 nationally in the desired field of study.

I am not sure how clean a program St. Johns is running. But we know all the shenanigans at UNC has sullied their reputation even though the ncaa keeps letting them off the hook.

He is a potential one and done player, who gets him drafted highest is probably all he is looking at.

Only one of the schools mentioned as being suitors that I would "push" him to is Stanford.

My kid gets offered a free Stanford education...he damn well better accept.

Other than that, I'm telling him "its UL or don't ever come home"!

Actually I would push my kid to UL. At those other spots he may just be another guy and may get lost in the shuffle. Coach Marlin has proven he can prepare guys for the next level and he would be a focal point here. Now if academics came into play regarding what type of program he wanted to study, other schools may come into play. I can tell you the reason we are being considered is the relationship our staff has developed with Dion Brown. That aside, the Dad will let the young man make his own decision.

What schools is your son considering? My daughter wanted to go elsewhere but ended up at UL due to basically getting almost an academic free ride due to all the engineering scholarships she obtained. Ended up being a good decision as she was the top ranking graduate in her Department and realized she would not have received as much individual focus elsewhere. She went away for her professional experience so it all worked out. Each kid makes an individual decision and most parents support those. Back to the original post. The Hayes signing is directly related to the Julien injury and it is possible if not likely he redshirts.

    I sent you a pm.
This signing makes sense. If he is a tough defender and can fill the Stove role this will go a long way in us having another good season.
