I always thought they weren't getting paid to play, but that doesn't cover umpires.

We had an incident at softball a few weeks back that was similar. Some idiot sitting behind us was following baseball on his phone via stat tracker. Kept mouthing off how stupid the decisions by Robe were. Then he made the mistake of calling out one of our pitchers by name and downgrading him. It just so happens we are friends with that pitchers parents. I won't name him. My son had heard enough(I was egging him on a bit) of the "fan" behind us. It got pretty ugly. Lots of cursing and letting him know how much of an idiot the guy was by calling out OUR players. The rest of the game the idiot didn't say a peep. BTW, we did lose the game. It was the Sunday GASO meltdown.
GEAUX CAJUNS
I guess it's a walk off then.
MAT you know more about the game than most. Therefore it makes sense you are sticking up for a kid playing the toughest field position there is. Many others do not realize how difficult it is to play that position which is likely the source of that criticism. Sort of like me getting irritated when people say they can make 80 of 100 free throws in their driveway and wonder why college players can't do that. They don't realize you are going from moving at incredible speeds to a situation you need to be relaxed. Very similar to the fact there is much more to playing catcher than just receiving the ball and throwing it back to the pitcher. Hopefully next season we actually can play two guys there as the season goes along.
Anyone going to the app games this weekend in Boone. I am thinking about catching Saturday.
Katinka, your boy MAT is rollin'. It's a walk off.
It sucks to hear one of our fans heckling a player. I've heard this at our football games. In fact, many years ago, a guy near us starting loud mouthing about one of our players (not where the players could hear)... but a woman in our section stood up and told him to Please... we laughed. She looked so mean... he Please. Women can usually more effectively confront a loud jackass guy easier than another guy.
I don't see posting on here about our athletes as anywhere close to doing it "at them in hearing range during a game". But I do wish some posters would chill out on here when it comes to slamming an athlete by name. You can vent with generalizations without scorching a student-athlete.
