I think the board is different because you’re not showing up a kid on the field of play.

I understand why people get frustrated with the situation. However, I think it shows lack of baseball knowledge and further, shows lack of appreciation for the entire circumstance that Kole McKinnon is dealing with.

I don't like some of the comments made about players on RP but that is a different world from saying it to him while he is on the field. Posting here is similar to screaming at your TV. People sometimes just need an outlet even if they are clueless as to what they are talking about.

McKinnon should be commended for the job he has done. As for the past balls.... a lot of things could have happened there. Signs crossed etc. Can't forget that Dmo is still working on changing how and what he throws. Arm slot is different etc. and I think we all know he still doesn't have full control/command. Its easy to see a really bad pitch from the stands but if an exhausted McKinnon is expecting a curve on the inside of the plate and ends up with more of a cutter on the outside of the plate its going to be a problem sometimes given the amount of work he has had to put in this season.

McKinnon may not be great and has made some mistakes but he's playing his ___ off for his team and that's all we can ask.
You're right about this. I've been critical of the guy on this board at times (although I'd never boo or curse at him like a jack_____) but he came into a tough spot. We're used to having catchers grind out seasons like Nike Thurman. The guy is probably still resting from his senior season.

McKinnon needs to improve, but don't act like a moron and heckle your own players at the ballpark.

But at the same tome, to the _______ in 102 and 104 yelling “catch the ball”, I’m sure your reminder really helped him. He must forget that he’s wearing the catcher equipment, giving signs to the pitcher, and has to catch the ball. Your advice must really help. That ____ is like the equivalent to LSU booing their QBs, which is what makes them LSU. We aren’t that. So shut up.
Yeah shame on that guy or guys. I mean we all can feel frustrated, but to yell out something like that is just childish. The young man has his struggles, but he is putting out high effort. For anyone who doubts the difficulty of catching every game, just go squat in your living room and see how long you can squat. I doubt most could make it to five minutes even without heat and catcher's gear. That doesn't include other things you have to worry about while catching such as managing different pitchers with different styles, calling the pitch, blocking a pitch, worrying about baserunners, etc.

Although Cole has struggled a bit, he has thrown out runners better than I expected of him, and has handled the pitching staff well IMO. He has surprising moments with the bat getting a hit here and there or getting on base with a walk. His bat is not getting better because of fatigue. He is working his hardest to block up balls and keep everything in front. He has taken a beating this year.

That takes me back to 2015 when Thurman had caught I think his 35th game in a row and a similar thing happened where he did not catch a pitch that he probably should have and someone in the grandstand yelled "catch the ball", and Thurman while getting the ball at the backstop shot the guy who said it a look. Needless to say, that shut the guy up. Cole, like Thurman, is giving it his all. He is having his struggles, but it is not for lack of effort. I can't trash someone like that. No doubt Cole feels the weight of the frustration heavier than anyone.

He says these guys believe in each other and they don't point fingers when things go wrong. They just keep working.

And, I admire the crap out of that. When you consider how depleted our pitching staff is right now, this was one helluva gutsy win tonight.

Dylan Moore was the best he's been all year. And I hope that's a harbinger for things to come.

BTW, it wasn't mentioned during this thread. Tony said after the game that it's relatively good news on Stoelke. It's a strain in the groin area. He started treatment today and will be left behind this weekend to continue treatment. Cross your fingers he's back for next weekend vs. Little Rock.
Even without Stoelke, we now have Lee available in the pen so it balances out a little bit.

D Mo is a work in progress as he deals with his injury (not sure what it is). he is learning to "play around" the problem, which is all anyone can ask. None of these guys have given up. As discouraged I've been at times this season, I think they actually inspire their fans with their sheer determination and refusal to quit. As MAT said, there were plenty of games earlier when they folded up like tulips. Those days appear to be in their past.

I look forward to watching them the rest of the season, no matter when it ends.

I hope there are upstanding men on this board that will shout those morons down the next time they decide to air their ignorance.

I have to say I was very impressed with DMo last night. It appears he's either throwing a curve now as his off speed pitch was in the low 70's which he needed with his FB now in the mid-80's. It give enough speed change to make his FB much more effective. JMO

How about Lamont. Started Tuesday with an era of 67.50 in 2/3 of an inning. In two days he has pitched 3-1/3 of scoreless ball.

When you are a senior and this is it for you as a player, at some point you get real with yourself and figure out this is it. It’s now or never

What McKinnon is doing is beyond understanding for anyone that hasn’t caught a baseball game. I will never criticize what that kid is doing. I don’t care what he’s hitting or how many times he’s been crossed up.

The guy is mentally and physically exhausted. He’s got several nagging injuries and has caught every inning but maybe 2 this entire season. Just had a great weekend againast UTA (that not many commented on btw) and continues to battle.

Two five game weeks in a row, constant travel, extra inning games and catching guys out of the pen that he literally has never caught before. He’s also learning our pitching system on the fly. It takes some catchers 2 seasons before they fully encompass and digest what this guy is doing.

Keep grinding Mr. McKinnon. I see you.
Never OK to trash our players. Them’s fighting words. It’s never a player’s fault if he’s not up to the challenge. It’s the coaches responsibility to make sure he’s got enough players with the appropriate skill levels to successfully compete.

In a rare case a player doesn’t prepare properly, but that’s on the coach to make sure that player doesn’t compete.

Even though those are fighting words, we can’t succumb to mob rule. Guess we need to shun those non fans.
