Thread: Handsome Monica

I'm somewhat glad he is out for the year. The medical redshirt should go through and we will get him back for a strong campaign next year. Not that this season is a wash by any means, but this team is what it is. I would rather have him come back strong next year with Gunner and the rest of the returning cast, maybe either Hogan or Lee will return, and hopefully a new hitting coach and we make a big run. Also, I really hope this is the last season we have to watch McKinnon behind the plate.

I think McKinnon has done a good job Being thrown in the first game
If Monica comes back next year McKinnon at backup will be to our advantage

Medical redshirt is a virtual certainty as he played only a couple of games before the injury. They can't say it will be granted until it is official. However the application process is a mere formality at this stage.

Agreed.... except it was a couple innings, if I recall.

This is true...during the Friday night season opener at Texas.

McKinnon by all accounts is a good dude but on field he is a massive liability on this team. Add .100 to his current batting average and only then it's approaching mediocre. He is a very easy out. FAR Too easy at our level.

I find it incredibly disappointing we dont have a 3rd option at catcher that can be trusted to hit better than McKinnon's anemic .150.... Dude cant touch a curve and is late on Fastballs....AND....No one on bench or Freshman being redshirted is better than this?

We really don't have a true DH option hitting above the Mendoza line, why would you expect to have a third catcher who could.

Looks like we need to try real hard to learn to be happy with what we have this year and hope and pray that the strong suites out way the week ones in any particular game and we can get on a win streak that way - J1M, 27 in a row!!!!!!!!!

Yes and once he takes one official appearance at bat, his year counts. There is nothing certain in asking for a medical RS after appearing in a game.

That freshman third option on the catcher depth chart tore his shoulder. We had three healthy catchers to start. Two became injured. Snakebit.

He was a more defensive option at catcher too. Not recruited for his offense. Faecher can catch but not good enough to use unless McKinnon gets injured.

He did get up to .200, but slid back down that hill over the last week, or two. the fact we cannot solve an 85 mph lefty on Friday night is disturbing. Amateur baseball, I guess.

Bottom of the fifth inning, first batter, Hibberler at bat. Got a hit and on stealing second Monica came up to throw him out and he twisted his knee.

Seems like 4 innings in the field and 2 at bats in the first game would have to be once of the smallest time playing disqualifications for a medical redshirt if that would happen.
