We’re consistent a one bid league making us not relevant.
Agree we are not relevant as a one bid league. That is true for over 20 conferences however. I was just pointing out the league is not the worst in the nation according to the numbers despite some believing it is. You may call it quibbling but I call it trying to be accurate.

    27 wins this year: 0 vs top 100 RPI, 10 vs RPI 101-200, 15 vs RPI of 201+ and 2 non- D1.

To his credit, Marlin coached Louisiana to a winning record vs RPI 101-200; something he had accomplished only once before in his tenure here.

54-86 vs top 200 RPI over the last 8 years at UL.

You may call that good basketball. I call it institutionalized mediocrity.
Well...and I’d argue, much to the hate of this board, our lack of wins over Top 100 RPI is why we didn’t host the NIT game.

I call it accurate. If you’re not relevant but once every 25 years you’re awful. It’s like dating a 3 and being glad you’re not dating a one. Neither is worth being okay with. But that’s just me.

No, being accurate is a reflection of what the numbers show and not what someone thinks is important. Being non relevant is different than being The worst. FACT is the league is nowhere near the worst as someone alleged. When things like that are said, they should be couched as opinion rather than fact when the numbers show that statement to be false. You may not think it is an important distinction but the engineer in me will not allow me to back down on this. That is different than being acceptable. That is a completely different issue.

Good stats VO. I don’t get too upset about the top 100 rpi record because for the most part those teams are more talented than us. I do find our record against peer programs(100-200) to be too low. We need to be at at least a .650 winning average.

Interesting article in the SportingNews that discusses many of the subjects in this thread.
    ---

In 2017, there were 36 at-large bids available in a 68-team field. The top six leagues consumed 32 of them, or 89 percent. A decade earlier, when there were 35 at-large bids available to the NCAA Tournament, the top six leagues consumed 28 of them, or 80 percent.

Outside the top six in 2017, there were three multi-bid leagues. In 2007, there were six.

This can be blamed a bit on scheduling; it always has been a challenge for teams outside the power leagues to get spots in the best tournaments or to secure home-and-home series with attractive opponents.

They're also not winning many of those games they get the chance to play. Atlantic-10 Conference teams this year were 8-39 against the top six leagues; in 2007-08, they were 17-28.

In 1998, 67 percent of the top 100 prospects – as measured by the Recruiting Services Consensus Index (RSCI) -- committed to teams in the nation's top six conferences: ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, Pac-12.

By 2007, that percentage had increased to 89 percent.

In 2017, it was 95 percent.

Friend of mine has compared this situation to a money laundering scheme. When criteria becomes your record against the Top 50 and you don't have many opportunities to play those schools, especially at home, you begin to wonder if he has a point. Add in the fact that each conference makes more money the more games your league schools participate in and you really have to give that view some credence.

Chrystal clear to me - this could be answer to the anti-trust requirement for proof of damages to the non-P5 schools by the possible collusion between the P5 presidents, ESPN and the NCAA.

After all, the president of the NCAA, Dr. Emmerich, is a past chancellor of LSU and just maybe is giving favorable treatment to LSU and the other P5's.
