They're not going to come here because of the money we pay and because we are a Tier 2 program. They have nothing to gain by doing so in the long run. Our best bets are to try and get teams like Middle Tennessee, Houston, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky, SF Austin and New Mexico State to play home & home with us. It won't be easy, but we clearly have to do better than Louisiana College or Southern UNO.
It's just the way it is. Even freakin' Gonzaga has trouble scheduling non-conference home games vs. Power schools.
No more D2 schools.
Schedule Tech, Tulane, USM, Houston and Rice as much as possible.
Schedule as many 1 for 1's with historical top 150 RPI schools of the non-Power conferences.
After that, just go on the road to Power schools.
Take the training wheels off.
Another thing about our RPI numbers. A 107 5-year average is certainly acceptable for scheduling by other schools. The problem is the opponents' opponents ratings factoring into the Committee selection. We can't do much about the SBC schedule we have, but we can certainly schedule a lot better in non-conference to boost these numbers in our favor.
Why? Is it because we average 4K fans a game at home? Is it because we’re in the Belt? Is it because we have a history of NCAA violations and they don’t want to associate with us? Is it because they’re scared to lose? (I’m sure that’s not it)
You’re telling me a school like Houston wouldn’t be interested in a 2 for 1? I just do not believe that.
