fans of teams that win with coaches that you say are at best irresponsible, love their coach. its when you say things and lose that becomes a problem. case in point, even in our conference GSU coach hunter, media loves him, fans love him. he says whats on his mind. has good wins under his belt.
That's not all he said.
I'm not saying that cost us the game; only that it was stupid to give them bulletin board material. It is just another manifestation of his poor coaching.
Bob is awful in half court coaching, especially offensively. Even the play by play guys commented on us clogging the paint with extra guys when trying to penetrate the lane, and about horrible spacing and lack of movement without the ball.
I'm fine with Marlin's comment. He didn't back down after the game. The NCAA and NIT will go out of their way to screw over the mid major every chance they get. They need to get called on it
Read an article this morning where Bobby Paschal was quoted and said it best. "We don't need to play LSU to validate our program". Of course the NIT racket, ahem, Bracket dictated we had to play them tonight in BR. One Cajun NIT win wouldn't necessarily validate our season or our program, as I'm equally disappointed we got bounced out of the SBC Tourney. No doubt we've sorely missed having Grant at full strength. A couple of NIT victories might have helped validate the season beyond the realm of the SBC. So we're left to ponder what might have been with a 100% healthy Gant. Two more victories either way? Probably. The bigger question our fan base needs to ask ourselves if not today by tomorrow is: Is the MBB program positioned to compete at the highest level of the SBC every year going forward for as long as we're in this conference? Maybe five of the past 18 years we've been very close to the top of the SBC? Can Coach Marlin reload and win 25 games instead of a facing rebuilding job? That's one thing it will take to burst through this Wall the program keeps hitting. Secondly does Coach have the resources to get it done compared to peer programs in SBC and CUSA? We seem to have a strong commitment to MBB but I have no idea how our university's commitment compares to other above average SBC and CUSA MBB programs. Next season is a pivitol year for the program and Coach Marlin to prove he can build upon this year's progress. Or will the program bounce off the wall again? Recent history suggests about a 30% chance of competing at a high level in conference. The onus is on Coach Marlin to prove otherwise, he's got his work cut out for him.
As for LSU I don't care if we ever play their catastrophe syndrome program, it doesn't validate our program. What will validate the program is continuously winning or almost winning conference and/or the SBC tourney then winning NCAA tourney games or making deep run in the NIT.
