LSU/UL NIT matchup

You say that, but I recorded every NIT game last night hoping to see some coverage and there was none. One 1/2 time report said "LSU moves to the 2nd round with a win over Louisiana" and that was all I saw. Maybe there was something that I missed, but I scanned every game. BR is talking about classless Marlin was and not about the good competitive game. "Little Brother" came down the street, got beat, cried about from the top down, and went home with a loss. Nationally, the 9th place team in the SEC won a regional match up they "should have one". I don't see how we progressed at all. It was definitely a fun game and I loved the passion, I just wish that it could have been handled with more integrity and class. Hopefully we can schedule some games with better competition and get our SOS higher. Not picking on you, just frustrated about a lost opportunity. Great game though.

I seem to recall a Robe-coached team causing a similar rukus in a Baton Rouge regional before.

I was there... Robe's team caused nothing... We had dared to beat them and they had to come back and win two... which they did... Walley Pontiff, glorified in tiggger country, throws a bat into our dougout... Robe, like Marlin, simply stood up "for the name on our uniforms.. That's what Marlin was doing... Probably not a popular opinion on RP at the moment, but Marlin rose quite a few notches in my book by standing up to the bully..

And that's what they are.... Forget this "big brother" BS... Big Brother implies family... they are not my family... They are the 15 year old 180 pound fat boy in the 5th grade bullying his classmates

That is still not accurate, Turbine. It absolutely would be good for both programs, I am not disagreeing with that. But baseball was in 2002 and still is a nationally relevant program. At no time since Jesse Evans left ( Lee coached Evan's players in the 2005 vacated wins year) has UL been relevant in terms of being competitive with really good teams, and the last time we were really relevant was the NIT final 4 year or the year of the NCAA win over Oklahoma, or the year we won the Great Alaska Shootout over Patrick Ewing and Georgetown. .

Marlin's comments would have been no less relevant if he had said 'in the 65-years prior to my tenure.'

Marlin was exposing the absurdity of LSU's avoidance regardless of the current stature.

Including Louisiana's historical highs and lows makes any excuse even more foolhardy.

I recorded every game that started between 6 and 9 last night and scanned through them when I got home last time. It took about 15 mins

Marlin did not say anything that was not factual. I will never fault him for standing up for his team and his program. You act like we should "know our place" when that is the root of ALL THAT IS WRONG here. And Marlin SAID IT. And he was right when he said this game would have had a different outcome had it been played in Lafayette.

Two teams. 60 miles. We've played teams that are a thousand miles more distant more times. We didn't start ANYTHING. LSU started it with an attitude of they're too good to play us. And they started it WAY BEFORE YOU WERE BORN. Get an understanding of history.

Just because it was factual doesn't mean its the right time or place or thing to say. Period. He likely shouldn't have gone to where he did with his comments. Doesn't do any good to motivate your opponent any more than need be.

I've had two showers since I got home last night. I still cannot get the refinery smell off of me. Gawd I hate that fookin place. And Will wade is the biggest DB around. Fans were fine. Only ran into a couple that were not. Great game and great year. Oh and Will Wade is the biggest DB around.

As far as Marlin is concerned and his pregame comments... there is nothing quite as frightening as ignorance in action.

Any opportunity to schedule LSU home and home is now much less likely, particularly while Will Wade is their coach.

So help me out here... How many games have been played between the schools BEFORE Marlin's comments??? Marlin stood up for his team... He stated the obvious, which you too state, that it would be great to play each other more often... To wit the 12 year old got his panties (I do think he wears panties after looking at him on TV) in a wad.... Marlin stated the truth.. it would be fun on both sides of the basin if we played....

I don't give a rats arse if we never play them again... in fact I hope we don't. We are brining in Texas in baseball... Let's try to do the same in basketball... I don't want to see the ugly arse purple in my gym

I wasn’t able to go to or watch the game. I’ve read some comments here and just finished watching the highlights and both post game press conferences.

Anyone who says LOUISIANA playing LSU is not a big game is kidding themselves. The hype around LSU being in the SEC and their programs having won national championships gives their programs a certain mystique that playing a Sunbelt opponent will never have even when LSU team is not good. I think that atmosphere and them being an instate rival is great for our program, athletes and fans.

Because of their reputation and and the conference they are in, people assume they would have better players and coaches.
Unfortunately we lost to them last night on the basketball court and how sweet a win would have been.

However, watching the post game coaches interviews, you can see them on KATC ap, I was much prouder to be a Cajun fan than I would be to be a Tiger fan. Their coach seemingly didn’t care about the Cajuns and never thought of us but sure did have every game score and every opponent memorized. He admitted that he called time out so we could enjoy playing him. Completely CLASSLESS. When someone doesn’t think much of you they don’t have every statistic from the last three years memorized and rattle off at press conferences. To Wade it wasn’t about winning it was about trying to embarrass and harass our team and coaches. He is childish and juvenile and I would be embarrassed if he was our coach.

Marlin didn’t bait the tigers, he said what he thought was right and I agree. Just like Tom Brady gets calls his way from officials because he’s “Tom Brady,” LSU got higher seed because they are LSU. Marlin was professional and although emotional during the game but I was proud of him and have a lot of respect for him. I would have preferred a win but it didn’t happen. He said he would have rather played in Lafayette but didn’t really make excuses.

Great season Cajuns and Coach Marlin, I tip my hat to you for being the adults in the room and promoting our University with CLASS!!!

Others have said it but I say it again - I went with a mixed group of UL and LSU friends and we all had a blast! Even tho the LSU students and Wade crossed the line a few times, it all made for a fun basketball environment and everyone in my group agreed that this should be an annual NC game. I suspect that will not happen because Wade will continue the tradition of refusing to play UL...and if so that's a damn shame.

I am also proud of how Marlin handled himself compared to Wade after the game. But again, that was a lot of fun and I think every LSU fan in the PMAC last night would agree with that

Gym or areana? LOL. Lets be very clear on that one. Apparently that was one of the comments leading up to the game that ____ed Wade off. Marlin apparently took a shot at the PMAC calling it a gym and Wade didn't like that.

Look, I hate we lost. But complaining will get us no where. If we win that game, Will Wade the pathetic looking momma's boy cant say anything. We would keep bragging rights in basketball untill we play again. We lost and to the victors go the spoils. i'm not going to sugar coat this and bang on the other school for our failure. We earned this egg on our face by not beating them and playing an offence that Marlin thinks Stephen Curry plays for him. But yea, i'm ______ed off.

Minus the really vile stuff, this is what college basketball should be. But our fan base is so used to treating games like a country club, and being “classy” that we don’t have an ounce of the fire and atmosphere. It’s a major part of our problem.

I don’t fault LSU or their trashy fan base for doing what they do. That’s who they are. It’s time for our ppl to toughen up and start winning some damn basketball games that matter!

So if our ppl start being less "classy" and start dropping more f bombs, that will toughen them up?
