It’s an endless cycle.

For the people advocating for 3 for 1s, that isn’t almost a decent deal. Playing on the road is hard enough.

The state of NCAA basketball is not changing. It won’t change until a mid major finds some novel way to beat the system, and then it’ll change to make it look more fair (but in practice, will favor the power conferences).
The Gonzagas and Boise States started out just like us. They played a lot of road games and started winning before they could get teams to visit their campus. If we have to play road games to schedule schools, play them. But, we have to beat them. Make a name for ourselves, then schools will want to play us. Right now, we are just a mid-level Sun Belt school that nobody wants to play. Things will not change until we change.

They both are going to play. How much and how effective are the real questions

Agreed. Some of these schools mentioned won’t even play us, so a 2/3 for 1 is out of the question. Let’s find as many SEC, Big12, or ACC teams who will play us at there place. Let’s recruit kids who want to play that kind of schedule. If it means playing only 2-3 OOC home games, so be it. This strategy is fraught with disaster, but it is the only way to get out of our current situation.

Gonzaga still has trouble scheduling Big name teams at home. They normally have to travel to exempt tournaments. Creighton played there this year and San Diego state last year

Obviously those are financial comprises with the additional pressure to have enough home games for the players to get to class. We do; however _____ about the non Division I schools.

First of all, D2 games should be ended immediately.

Do as many 1 for 1's with UH, Rice, Tech, Tulane and USM that you can.

There should be at least 3 Power Conference games every year.

We should be in as many in-season tournaments as possible.

After that, any non-conference games scheduled must be with historical Top 150 RPI programs.

Don't care 1 iota how many non-conference home games we have. How many home games we have in the conference Tourney? How many home games we have in the NCAA Tourney? Nobody pays attention to basketball around here until football season is over in January anyway. By then, we're in conference schedule. Non conference home games are way, way overrated.

It's like you said and Houston said.

Being stuck with D2 games, low RPI games, low RPI conference games and perpetual 15 seeds in the Tourney IS NOT ACCEPTABLE for this basketball program and this fanbase.

With the exception of Tech, none of the other schools will do that. Some won’t even play us from what I understand.

I know. It's very short sighted and childish behavior by the other schools, but just wanted to reiterate that effort should be made constantly. Although, if we get our RPI high enough, they will start magically returning those phone calls.

Why would you advocate playing Rice and USM? Rice's RPI was 325. USM was 206. In fact, with the exception of Houston, Nicholls and Southeastern's RPI was higher than all of those teams this year.

It's not just RPI, its perception. I would rather have Rice and USM on our schedule than Nichols, SE Louisiana, McNeese, Savannah State, New Orleans, Loyola New Orleans, and Louisiana College. Besides, if we are ever moving to a better conference, we need to be playing schools in those better conferences. Just look at the NIT. We have a better RPI than LSU, a better record and a better facility, yet LSU got the higher seed. We have to change the perception of who we are and who we associate with by scheduling better and winning against better competition to enable us to move to a better conference and change the perception of UL.

Lets just go ahead and schedule like Texas Southern go on the road against power teams the first 13 games of the season. Start off a solid 0-13 and make the tourney with a 15-19 record.
