MEDIOCRITY. OVERPAID.
GRADUATION RATE ANY BETTER?
Good to know
We have not really improved over the last 5 years. We have been third, fourth, fourth, sixth and first in a conference that has no MTSU and no WKU. Our record looks a little better, but any way you slice it we are 54-85 against the top 200 RPI over the last 8 years, with only 2 years in that span being above .500 against that level of competition.
PAY RAISE and EXTENSION ON THE WAY .
NM...don’t wanna derail positive thread...
Yes, talk of a coaching change is basically meaningless at this stage other than letting people voice their opinion (always value in that). It will not happen even if we get blown out Wednesday. Once again Dr. Maggard thinks very highly of Coach Marlin and his is the opinion that counts. Now were a majority of the fan base to think otherwise things could change. However, people who want a change (don't deny there are some) are a definite minority at this point. Focus on the team as the coach is not in question and likely won't be for some time.
Mike, I think you might be surprised at the number of people who are not satisfied with the direction our program has taken. Many people want us to elevate the level of competition we play to make our program relevant on a larger stage. When Marlin has done this, the results have been less than spectacular. We are paying him a significant amount more than any other coach in this conference and he has not delivered on a level commensurate with his compensation.
I agree his job is in no danger this year, but I do think the pressure is on for him to improve both scheduling and results.
Don’t need to fire him yet ,just don’t give an extension or pay raise .
Don't know about raise (doubt it). However many believe his current contract calls for an automatic extension with either a regular season or conference tournament championship. That goes back to his original contract negotiated by David Walker. Therefore he is likely to be here three more years.
