Yet, Hunter at Georgia State in four years has 2 SBC Tournament Championships, 1 Regular Season Championship, 2 NCCA Tournament Bids and 1 NIT Tournament Bid. That's called progress.
This season didn't happen in a vacuum, this is season 8 for Coach Marlin. At some point, our standards need to something more than plus .500 season and 1 NCAA Tournament in 8 seasons. If this isn't clear enough to the people that keep asking why MBB doesn't have better attendance, I'm not certain what will convince them. Marlin hasn't created any new tradition of winning championships or earning NCAA bids.
And in none of those seasons would GSU have got an at large.
Again I'm not disputing we need more consistency or progress. I am not going to be an ncaa or bust guy. Now if we dont make progress or show consistency next year I will not be happy.
BUT we could very well win 20 games and be in an ncaa tourney or win 25 and not make a post season tourney. Both of those scenarios will have fans crapping on good seasons.
Never said it was the norm. What I did say is that we will never be seriously considered for an at large if we continue to schedule our non conference games like Marlin has done. We must schedule better and WIN better games.
I am not interested in UL being the norm; I want much better than that for my school.
At no time have I mentioned anything about an at large bid. My point in bringing up Georgia State is to simply illustrate their success in bringing in Hunter to change the culture and in four short seasons in the SBC he has 2 NCAA bids, 1 NIT bid, 2 SBC Tournament Championships and 1 Regular Season Championship. Marlin has gotten a pass for playing in the CIT and achieving mediocrity until 2014.
