I agree with the sub .500 at-large rule. It should make spots available to teams like this year's Cajuns... and it would make the NIT more "interesting"... like it used to be.

Again, it’s not about winning 20 games necessarily.
Middle does not get big boys to their place just like us. He does go on road a little more which I think we will do in future.

Well in our case it’s rarely 3 games.

The point is, it is 3 games in March for a lot of conferences.

Don’t forget the most important thing....more often than not, he wins those games.

Not exactly true, Mike. Middle had a much stronger non conference schedule. Their worst non conference home game was vs RPI 172 Florida Gulf Coast, best was RPI 81 Belmont. Our best was RPI 150 SE Louisiana, our worst was RPI 298 McNeese. They also have on-going home and home contracts with Vanderbilt and Ole Miss. This year Ole Miss was at Middle.

I was never a Kermit Davis fan, so that answer would be no for me. But why can we not expect similar results to New Mexico State, Georgia State or Steven F Austin? We are told by some that football drains our resources to be consistently competitive in G5 Basketball. Yet these programs among others in the G5 are going to the NCAA Tournament more frequently than UL and all of them have football programs.

    SF Austin 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018
    Georgia State 2015, 2018
    New Mexico State 2013,2014, 2015, 2017, 2018

The 2018 season was anomaly an for Coach Marlin here at UL going 27-6 with a regular season championship. I think this season and an NIT birth has earned Coach Marlin another 2 seasons. But the lack of NCAA Tournament Bids is not acceptable in my book. He was hired to repair this program after Coach Lee and he has done that job well. But if G5 MBB is irrelevant, then how relevant is a program that has done little to nothing in conference championships and 1 NCAA Tournament bid?

You just ruined this teams season
Lol, we didn’t have our defensive and newcomer player of the year at all and Stove played minimally but yeah it’s totally on the coach, yeah right. If we had one or both of them we would have won easily

I'm not disputing any of that. I found using Middle as the unicorn G5 program funny with how that program was built. On top of that I'm not going to crap on a 27 win season and a conference championship.

I do think we need a lot more consistency in program but we are in a one bid league so we are fighting for 1 spot. It has been proven over and over that you have to be near perfect to gain an at large.

Now 1 thing I think needs to happen immediately is scheduling a tougher out of conference. We need to improve our SOS and for the foreseeable future that's not happening with the conference schedule. If we can do that and continue to build on this season I will be happy. I'm not an ncaa tourney or bust guy simply because we still have to win 3 games in March to go dancing. That is a slim margin for error or like this season 2 key injuries.

Hate to burst your bubble, but that at large for MTSU was as a 10 seed...... from the Sun Belt.

I hate to burst your bubble but that is no where near the norm. You can name a lot more teams who deserved a bid who were left out.
