I seem to remember Marlin and staff doing very well in recruiting and having some players coming in next season who could make an immediate impact.
I know it's early but do we expect to have a drop off in talent next season or better talent?
I understand that talent isn't everything and one of the main reasons this team was successful this season was due to how well they played together. My question is strictly focused on talent Marlin is losing/gaining for next season.
Certainly going to be tough replacing Bryce - the on-floor leader and backbone of this team. Bartley's defense and scoring will be missed. Stove's leadership and effort will be missed. I expect big things from Russell. He needs to get more confidence and shoot more. I'd like to see Miller stay down low and dish out some assists sometimes. Gant, Marquetti, and Stroman will obviously be back and play big roles... J. Davis has shown flashes... PJ Hardy has potential. Kobe Julien was going to be a big part of next year... but the ACL may cause him to redshirt. What about K. Evans? Other newcomers that will contribute next year? Now, if we could land Jordan Brown, then we are cooking with grease.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be pulling for the team to do well in the tourney, but F the NIT. It could just as well be a pay for play tournament as far as I'm concerned. Wake me up in October.
In those 9 years Davis didn't have a post season trip and never won conference. I don't care who you schedule if you aren't winning the games that matter.
I want to ditch the 2 non D1 games and have a better schedule but it doesn't change my point. If you are using middle as your unicorn then we are ahead of their building process.
