Most of these guys don't see but 1 game a weekend. They literally go through stat lines to come up with just about all of this. Simonds' stats were better, even his defensive stats were better but he was also more heavily used IMO. That team leaned on him a hell of a lot. We had so much more balance this year that its truly amazing that Bartley was able to produce what he did so consistently when we often had 4-6 guys in double digits.

Simmonds is a nice player.. but Frank Bartley is the POY.
i would have voted for Barkley, but looking at the statistics only it's Simmonds. He played an average of 5 minutes more per games, but he lead in virtually all the comparable stats.

No coach is going to load a bunch of players from one team onto an Allstar, all-conference, or all anything list. Spreading the wealth will always be an issue.

If that weren't the case our softball starting lineup would have been the complete All Conference 1st team for the past decade.

Just leaves them hungry for more.

....Blocked shots = Defensive player of the year.....just putting into play the value that he brought in that respect......the psychological effect alone can not be diminished!!!

Not saying you’re wrong about the stats, it’s just a shame that “basketball people” can’t recognize that Bartley was the total package. Locked down team’s best offensive options, game in, game out.

I’ll put it this way.. id take Bartley over Simmonds to lead my team into the NCAAs.

Simonds acts like a little baby when he doesn’t get his way. Hangs his head like a sore loser and doesn’t support his team. I’d take Bartley over him any day. I don’t care how good of a scorer he is

It's interesting to note that Sikes from South Alabama was a junior college transfer and he's on the second team. Yet he lost the newcomer of the year award to Gant, who is on the third team.

I think what happens is, when it's time for superlative awards, voters vote for the guy on the team that wins. Obviously not in every case, as Bartley didn't win POY.

But that might have happened with Gant.

I agree. Bartley was our most consistent player all year. I would never argue that I like Simonds more than Bartely because I don't but I just wanted to point out that he statistically led over Bartley in literally every category except 3pt%. Had we not been so balanced on offense and would have leaned on Bartley more, he likely would have gotten it.

That is noteworthy! Peculiar how the politics of voting works out.

Marlin had way to many great trading pieces to protect on this team with only 1 vote. Many of the other coaches had one, maybe two trading pieces at most to protect. So, some great trading pieces on a deep team will just not get all that each deserves.
