I agree with all three, but the third one is up for question as we weren't the only team who thought a number of these prospects would be very good D1 players.

Oh no, I don’t think we missed on players. I was just stating that so that people who want to say “it’s on the players” can’t cop out.

That was not SLU's first time beating LSU.

If we have a sharp downturn, especially in the area we all know he isn't concentrating on, it's highly plausible he is just ignoring it for the most part, until it becomes a big enough issue. That's magnified with the continued employment of Talbot.

Honestly, I have a beginning for my theory. 2013. When he hired Babineaux as an associate head coach. We've had really good success, but we constantly make simple errors running the basepaths, and we've had a penchant for small ball. I've been following the team since I was in college in the mid 2000's. And I've noticed a difference since Babineaux got the promotion.
Interesting story. In 2013, when Deggs first came on, he told Robe to "keep that guy away from my hitters". The person he was speaking of was Bab.

Interesting indeed. Was this previously known information?

Are you at liberty to add anymore context to that tidbit?

I don't have much more. And I don't know if that attitude changed throughout the two years Deggs was here. I don't know if Deggs is like that at every stop (that he only wants he and his guys having anything to do with hitters). So, I should have added in my previous post that I don't know if it had anything to do with Bab personally, or Deggs would have had the same attitude regarding any coach.

However, the source that told me that gave me the impression that Deggs did not want Bab coaching his hitters.

I know Deggs told Robe he wanted full authority over the offense prior to taking the job. Edit: which I took to mean he even wanted Robe to back up from anything offense.

Could speak to our hitting abilities during the Deggs years, especially if he kept Babs away from the hitters. I honestly think in 2013 Robe turned over everything but pitching to Babineaux...and that's one of the main reasons why we struggle so mightily. I don't want Babineaux to run ____...I want Robicheaux to run ____.

My information is that 2013 Bab took over scheduling and logistics (i.e. traveling accommodations, etc.). Bab was another set of eyes as far as coaching baseball and would assist where needed. I think Robe turned more administrative stuff to Bab in 2013 as opposed to anything purely baseball. I know in 2013 Bab still was taking part in recruiting too.

My understanding is that Robe has always been deferential to our hitting coach (i.e. Simoneaux, Schef, Deggs, and Talbot). Robe would of course have final authority on lineups (with the exception of Deggs, but I am not certain), but the hitting coach would overall run the hitting program with Robe overseeing. Even at present as far as I know. When hitting isn't good, Robe has stepped in and taken over certain aspects of hitting. I know in 2016 for a certain period of time, he started making calls from the dug out as far as bunts, steals, squeeze plays. I have the feeling that since Talbot has been here, Robe has taken more control of the day-to-day lineup.

Deggs wouldn't say that...if he was only given schedule and logistics duties.

If Bab could not be as involved in the offense as much as previous, Robe gave him something else. Plus, in my post early I indicated Bab assists where needed regarding pure baseball stuff. Bab's background is as a position player and hitter. So he takes more part in those activities. But he has never been in charge of the hitting. That is for the hitting coach. When Deggs showed up with Harvell, he did not want Bab involved in that I believe.

But Bab did have the scheduling and logistics duties I know that for a fact. Did he only just get them in 2013, I don't know. But I know at least since 2013 Bab did have scheduling and logistics duties.

The offensive production is down. That we know. Digging deeper than batting average tells a story.

2017 Cajuns had a batting average of .266, versus 2017 .172, a 35% drop. On base percentage this year is .245 versus .357 in 2017, a 31% drop. Last year we walked once every 8.4 AB's. In 2018 we are walking once every 10.9 AB's.

Hit by Pitches is even worse. In 2017 we got hit by pitches every 36 AB's. This year we have 3 hit by pitches in 239 AB's, once every 80 AB's, less than half the rate last year.

Slugging% is down from .395 last year to an anemic .247, a 37% drop in power. We have 3 HR's, once every 80 AB's. in 2017 we hit 41 HR's, once every 47 AB's. Nobody accused the 2017 Cajuns of massive power.

Not only are we not hitting the ball, we are not walking nearly enough, getting hit by pitches, or hitting with any power. We are running a little better with 11 stolen bases, more than one per game. In 2017 we only stole 46 bases in 55 games. Getting on base would help the running game, obviously.
