  4. UL Football Louisiana Announces 2018 Football Schedule

With the Billy Napier era set to start this fall, the 2018 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football schedule has been announced featuring six home games and trips to SEC foes Mississippi State and Alabama, the Sun Belt Conference announced on Tuesday.

"We are excited to host six games at Cajun Field this upcoming season," Director of Athletics Dr. Bryan Maggard said. "Having all games on Saturdays, as well as a good balance of road and home games spread throughout the season will be beneficial for our fan base and community._ We look forward to starting a new era of Ragin' Cajuns Football under Coach Napier."
    _
Louisiana opens the season at Cajun Field on Sept. 1 against Grambling in the annual Herbert Heymann Classic. The meeting will be the first ever between the two programs.
    _
Following an open date, the Ragin' Cajuns begin a stretch of 11 straight weekends with a contest on Sept. 15 at Mississippi State.
    _
The Cajuns then open the Sun Belt schedule at home on Sept. 22 against Coastal Carolina in the first-ever matchup against the Chanticleers.
    _
Louisiana steps back out of league play on Sept. 29 with a trip to defending national champion Alabama. The Ragin' Cajuns return to conference action on Oct. 6 with a trip to Texas State.
    _
The Cajuns close out their non-conference schedule on Oct. 13 with a home contest against former Sun Belt member New Mexico State in the 69th edition of Homecoming.
    _
Following the Aggies game, Louisiana closes out the regular season with six consecutive Sun Belt Conference games, starting at defending SBC co-champion Appalachian State on Oct. 20.
    _
The Ragin' Cajuns return home on Oct. 27 to face Arkansas State before heading to the other defending SBC co-champion Troy on Nov. 3.
    _
Louisiana returns home for a pair of SBC games beginning Nov. 10 to face Georgia State before hosting South Alabama in the home finale on Nov. 17. The Cajuns close out the regular season on Nov. 24 at in-state foe ULM.
    _
For the first time since the formation of its football league in 2001, the Sun Belt Conference will play a championship game hosted at one of the member schools on Dec. 1.
    _
"We are excited about the challenge of our 2018 schedule," Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Football head coach Billy Napier said. "It's imperative that we remain focused on our current daily work so that we can be prepared for this great opportunity."

All Saturday games period. Which means our brand is no longer desirable for ESPN prime time. All exposure will be streaming on the 3 and what ever cox picks up.

That's not a Maggard thing that's an ESPN didn't want us thing. If ESPN wanted us mid week there is nothing Maggard could have done. Conference dictates that. Obviously we have fallen off the radar with them.

Going to Boone in mid October is well worth the trip, fall colors will be peaking at that time...

Not an issue for me unless you enjoy weeknight games with kickoffs at 8:30pm and empty stadiums. The viewer numbers in recent years for SBC weeknight games show me there is some regional interest and absolutely zero national interest. So yea , it's all about getting your brand out. Get to the SBC Championship game and our brand will get plenty of attention.
