It was very clear that this team was not focused and completely overlooked little rock. They were lethargic from the very beginning

I agree. The senior night distractions are a thing. I've seen teams lose this year on senior night to lesser opponents. Hell, Rhode Island got run out of their own gym by 30 to St. Joes on senior night. Its a distraction and its an emotional event. However, I debated with Charlie as to the effect of changing the starting lineup and its effect on the game. I think all of the other things mentioned affected the game more than the shift in the lineup.

Time to refocus and get ready for the SB Tourney.

In a close game they should come down with that high pass underneath the basket, go back up strong and get the layup and one with the foul. There were a few times when we turned up the intensity on defense, got the steal and blew the fast break. Then we just started playing uninspired again. They wanted it more than we did in OT. jMO. I hope Marlin can get them back on track for New Orleans and beyond.

Agree with both of these posts.

What's done is done.....let's focus, win this Tourney Championship, and go to the dance.

I don't think, nor ever claimed the change to the starting lineup was the sole cause. I think the problem is treating the night like it's different, and inviting all of the things you describe. I think the starting lineup change is a part of that, and sets the tone that the game doesn't matter as much. I'm not blaming the kids who started, or saying that it's not something we should have been able to overcome against a really bad team. But my fear going in was that as soon as you start treating a game as easy, or that you can mess around with it...you are setting your self up for failure. And that going into the tourney, that we have to win, coming off such a disaster was the absolute worst thing we could do. We needed to go in rolling.

Here is how I would have handled it. I would have challenged my starters to go in there and blow them out early. Come out intense and give me the chance to put the 5 seniors in for a long stretch of the game. I would have made it about whipping their ___ so their friends could play in front of the home crowd.

But basinbear is right. It's over now, time for them to man up and turn it back around.

How many senior night loses does the Big Fish have vs weaker opposition? Marlin has always started the seniors. It’s the norm.

Losing of course had nothing to do with the start of the game. Our team had opportunities to blow the lid off in both halves.

It's easy to point to anything in a loss beyond the obvious. Poor shooting, no healthy spark plug Stove, awful free throws, sloppy passes. All those things happened with the three possession leads and the normal starters.

This is one of those games you kind of expect to see at some point, I just expected to see it on the road. We've shot well ALL year long and done all the little things well ALL year long. We lost to Ga State but hell we scored over 90 points and shot relatively well from the field. This was that game where we just ____ the bed and nothing went right for us. We missed so many open shots, gave up too many interior baskets on sloppy defense and didn't even shoot free throws well that it was just a perfect storm of things we did poorly.

I think we will bounce back in a big way. Only thing I'm truly concerned about is defense and getting Marquetti untracked. He has shot terribly the last few weeks and his confidence is gone. He's lucky to bang shots off the backboard right now.

Also, I'm worried that teams will go zone against us. We've been so good at interior cuts on offense against man and that's where Bartley has absolutely killed people, inside. LR ran zone against us and took a lot of those cuts away and that really diminished everything we do on offense.

Not having Stove against that zone was a big disadvantage for us. He can get the ball at the free throw line and is quick enough and strong enough to then drive the ball to the goal. It is crucial he is healthy this weekend.

If Stove is not effective (because of his injury) Bartley and Stroman will have to pick up the slack.
I would have liked to see Davis come in off the bench Saturday night. I think he could have helped.

You aren’t the only one. That game played out very weird. From the coaches to the players. Something just felt off

IMO Davis is rarely effective. In most games he collects a couple of quick fouls. We didn’t need him Saturday. Gant, Miller, and Washington were never winded
