You create those relationships with high school coaches by visiting the coach. His players see you visit, they see the logo, the coach introduces them to the team. There is nothing about recruiting now that is the same as the 1940’s...it’s completely different from the 90’s. Those players aren’t checking the mid major poll. It’s a joke of a poll. Was everyone on here clammering about this poll before this year? Was that a goal set for the team before the year? No, nobody gave 2 shts about the mid major poll until this year. It’s a joke of a poll that isn’t even accurate or credible.

The basketball team wasn't on many fans' radars earlier and the only talk about the MBB was about how Marlin has underperformed and is overpaid. When this program was among the elite in the nation, beating blue bloods and enjoying AP rankings... what do you think those players and coaches would have thought about a ‘mid major’ poll?

That was in the 60's man. People still used lead based paint and smoked filterless cigarettes.

Unless they are recruiting early bloomers, there is no way coaches can possibly canvas what you are suggesting.

Late bloomer require late introductions. Hopefully they have heard about you before.

Mid Major polls are a useful tool in this regard.

Im talking about reality of seeing the same college coaches at our practices every year. We didn’t always have kids they were interested in or kids that would consider them but they were there every year. We don’t make less trips in recruiting, we actually have to hit more schools than the big boys do and more often because our shirt doesn’t carry the weight theirs does. You really don’t have a grasp on this. If our coaches are depending on this poll being what gets our name out there we are in a deep ___. Nobody gives a ___ about this poll except people with a small time loser mentality trying to grasp to anything that resembles success. It’s a mind set that some of you have become accustomed to. Gonzaga and st Mary’s are mid majors but MTSU, WKU,latech, UNT,FAU, and FIU are major? Great poll turbine. We are separating ourselves into second tier for them by acknowledging this.

So it should have been a high bench mark goal for a “mid-major” picked in the middle of its “mid-major” conference then right? “We want to win our conference, win the tourney and hopefully be number 1 in the “mid major poll” i never heard anyone say that...and god i hope i never do. We finally got Bob to shut up about 3 games in March.

Its an unofficial deal that is only put together to stir discussion, which apparently its doing here. This is not a goal of anyone associated with this university or fanbase. Do you think it is? The staff is only using it on social media because its out there and its positive about our university and NO, its not us accepting mediocrity nor pushing for it. In basketball, mid major is a discussion and a real thing. You know what? Whenever we are talked about moving forward we will be discussed as a mid major by the major pundits whether we like it or not. But they will be talking about us at least.

And that’s the problem with you guys, you get offended when other people think out the box. Never said we asked to be removed, for people who keep up with this poll, great we are on it, they see it. For people and players who think it’s a joke, they laugh when we promote it. I don’t care what the pundits think,i care what level players we will be relegated to when we self label ourselves as a step below. We can’t control what other people call is but we can control what we call ourselves. It desperation of a once storied program clinging to anything that seems relevant. We won’t agree on this which is fine.
