If a kid doesn’t know who we are it’s not because we didn’t retweet the mid major poll...which they would have to know who we are to see the tweet, Im not asking the coaches request to be removed, stop embracing the label.
You might be thinking of a school with a $100 mil budget that can afford to scout schools with no talent.

Alvin Dark didn't even know that 4 MLB scouts were watching him when he played at UL.

He didn't know, but it was reported in the Vermilion.

As we type UL is changing what they think.

Its good publicity. So, are we supposed to not acknowledge it? Being amongst the best mid major programs when there are so many in the country is not really a bad thing. The "poll" is not going anywhere. It will continue to be published and pushed. I can see it now, we refuse to acknowledge it and so many of our fans claim the school is not doing everything it can to push our brand and accomplishments.

No I’m not, these coaches recruit on relationships and you aren’t gonna keep many relationships stopping by every 4 or 5 years or only when they have a kid. You will be late to the party every time. Budget has nothing to do with it except for how far you go and if you get there in a rental car or private plane. Less budget is smaller radius, more driving and crappier hotels, less expensive meals.

Did you really just reference a guy being recruited in the 1940’s?

It doesn’t even know which conferences are mid major, why would anyone put any stock in that? If our AD would come out and say “ we aren’t going to be labeled a mid-major, we are trying to build a championship program in every sport, nothing mid-major about what we are trying to accomplish here” i don’t think one fan would be upset about that.

Nobody should care what they think is my point.

1940's or 2020 kids don't see things clearly until the situation confronts them head on and even then they just accept it as the norm.

Alvin Dark wrote his autobiography not knowing how he was discovered.

Coaches develop recruiting relationships with other (HS) coaches, they don't develop relationships with non performing high school athletes.

When you have a late bloomer you don't want your newly directed attention to be spent creating awareness. If you can help it.

Being highly ranked in a MM poll helps with pre engagement awareness.

You create those relationships with high school coaches by visiting the coach. His players see you visit, they see the logo, the coach introduces them to the team. There is nothing about recruiting now that is the same as the 1940’s...it’s completely different from the 90’s. Those players aren’t checking the mid major poll. It’s a joke of a poll. Was everyone on here clammering about this poll before this year? Was that a goal set for the team before the year? No, nobody gave 2 shts about the mid major poll until this year. It’s a joke of a poll that isn’t even accurate or credible.

So the social media people and the staff WANT to acknowledge this poll? I thought it was just an honest mistake, but this is much worse.

Well I can say this is my first bone to pick with Maggard.

Question: In casual conversation, in the barber shop or among friends or at a sports bar.. I challenge someone to bring up the fact that the Cajuns are the #2 ranked mid major team in the mid major poll.. See what kind of reaction you get. I suspect the moment you say that sentence out loud, you’ll realize “oh yes, that’s small time”.

When this program was among the elite in the nation, beating blue bloods and enjoying AP rankings... what do you think those players and coaches would have thought about a ‘mid major’ poll?

You must be talking about Acadiana.

Unless they are recruiting early bloomers, there is no way coaches can possibly canvas what you are suggesting.

Late bloomers require late introductions. Hopefully they have heard about you before.

Mid Major polls are a useful tool in this regard.
