I damn sure would rather say "We are ranked #2 or whatever in the Mid-Major Poll" than not ranked in anything. Of course, we would prefer to be ranked with Duke, KU, UNC, etc but something is always better than nothing. It doesn't exclude us from being ranked by the AP or SI. And I think if we hadn't lost to Ole Miss and/or Wyoming, we would be ranked in those.

It doesn't even know which conferences are mid major, why would anyone put any stock in that? If our AD would come out and say " we aren't going to be labeled a mid-major, we are trying to build a championship program in every sport, nothing mid-major about what we are trying to accomplish here" i don't think one fan would be upset about that.

You can be both a top ten program and a top 25 mid major. One has nothing to do with the other.

I truly understand not wanting to be viewed as anything except Division I.

And that’s the problem with you guys, you get offended when other people think out the box. Never said we asked to be removed, for people who keep up with this poll, great we are on it, they see it. For people and players who think it’s a joke, they laugh when we promote it. I don’t care what the pundits think,i care what level players we will be relegated to when we self label ourselves as a step below. We can’t control what other people call is but we can control what we call ourselves. It desperation of a once storied program clinging to anything that seems relevant. We won’t agree on this which is fine.

Nobody is using this as a goal or point of reference. Its just using every positive thing out there to our advantage if possible. I don't think anybody is going to negative recruit against us with this poll nor do I think they can.

Okay. Deep breaths. Here's reality.

In basketball we ARE a mid major. And we ARE in a mid major conference. Teams in this league haven't done enough to shed the distinction.

This school is about to win its SECOND conference regular season title in TWENTY SEVEN years.
There will come a time when we shed the distinction.

That time hasn't happened yet.

Being in a mid major poll is not going to kill our recruiting. Being in a mid major poll might get us scorn from bigger schools and bigger leagues, but we already get that.

Some of you beat Gonzaga to death here. Guess what? We're right behind them in this poll.

Who we are right now is not what we strive to be. But this poll isn't going to keep us from where we want to go.

Well the one ranking that we know means a heck of a lot is the RPI, and the Top 25 polls mirror the RPI a lot.

Mid Major polls are fools gold for those who want to think they are darn fine prospectors. It's hogwash, especially for a school supposedly dying to shed the small time ways of running an athletic department.

I’d be curious to know how many teams in their poll have cut them Checks in previous years to play in their tournament.

CUSA is not considered a mid-major. They are considered a high major conference in basketball.

Better hoops and better perception are the only reason CUSA might be a desirable move.

As of today, MTSU, WKU and ODU are all top 100 RPI, and Marshall is 102.
UTSA, UAB, UNT and LTUR are all top 200.

We are top 100.
GaSt, GaSo and UTA are top 200.

It should be pretty obvious which conference is better.

That being said, CUSA is a high major conference only because of teams that are no longer there. Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis, Marquette, etc.
