It's harmless, don't take yourself too seriously. The P5 schools aren't checking to see if you promoted yourself.

    So go ahead promote yourself.
And when They are out on the recruiting trail and they tell a kid “why settle for playing for a mid-major? Come play big boy basketball, son do you consider yourself a mid-major player?”

Better than introducing yourself for the first time on the recruiting trail and they have never heard your name.

If they (P5) are recruiting against you, you are in the game.

If they have never heard of us before, i sure hope we are introducing ourselves as a mid major. Which is essentially what we are doing acknowledging it. This is their first step to separating us yet people wonder why “mid-majors” don’t get at larges with 30 wins..it’s because ackowledging it is accepting that we are beneath everyone else.

And do you think this is not already spoken about in recruiting anyhow?

I don't wonder why. Its typically because a mid major's schedule and top level wins are usually much less than the big boys who can get such wins in conference games alone. The committee tends to think its taking a gamble on a high win mid major unless they have some top level wins to hang their hat on.

There are several things spoken about in recruiting that our coaches refuse to acknowledge. We haven’t gotten an at large in a long time, do you think our coaches should bring that up? This mid major crap was pushed by the bigger programs and i promise you it wasn’t with the intent to help us.

It’s a collective effort by the “bigger programs” to shut us out and we are assisting them by acknowledging it.

The Shock and Awe post season win can't be the first time they hear your name.

Any kind of mention associated with winning is valuable.

Like receiving votes in the real rankings? If our coaches are waiting for shock and awe to start recruiting then we have a major problem. If a kid at a school that this staff recruits at doesn’t know our name in year 8, that’s on them...they are doing it wrong.

I understand there are varying opinions on this. However, I can tell you the opinion of the basketball staff is to continue to acknowledge the poll as they think it is favorable publicity. Theirs is the only one that counts at this stage. If Dr. Maggard has a different opinion, things may change but I am pretty sure he agrees with his coaches here.

Does anyone know the full list of former players playing professional basketball.

    I know the following:

    Elfrid Payton--NBA
    Shawn Long--NBA G League
    Jay Wright--NBA G League
    Bryant Mambalu--Overseas, I think

Any other players playing overseas or in South America currently?

I also know that Kevin Brooks is an assistant or head coach in Australia.

Their actions clearly show their opinion of it. If the only opinions that matter here are what the coaches think then what’s the point of a message board? IMO it’s short sighted and buying into exactly what they want. If there is one thing I think should stay here from Michael Lotief is the thought “don’t let them label or define you” He never let that “mid-major” crap fly. It’s small time thinking. Once you accept it will be near impossible to shed it.
