In softball, a school is able to release someone to play immediately where baseball is not. The softball players school/coach also has the right not to allow them to play right away and make them sit out a year but the player typically can go to a review board at the school for final determination. In effect, UL could have blocked all three players from playing immediately.
Why does softball adhere to different rules than every other sport

Actually the transfer rule only applies to basketball (men & womens), football, baseball, and hockey. All other NCAA sports aren't subject to the rule.
