He was in national honors society so don’t think eligibility is a problem.

ESPN had him rated as a 4 star with a composite rating of 80 which is, by far, our highest rated recruit if that is what you are asking.

One thing that I think is causing people to be disappointed in this class is that they had way over the top expectations. It takes more than 2 months to build a high level class. Take into account that a lot of the players that we would have recruited were already signed or committed to other programs by the time we started the process, just adds to how hard it would have been to put together a big time class. We lost 2 top commits to SEC programs and lost a battle to Kiffin. With all that we still found pieces that fit needs and guys that we can redshirt and develop.

Expectations are high with a new coach but it is a process that takes time. Napier doesn't come across as a guy who doesn't have a plan. We still have 2 scholarships available and next year Louisiana is loaded with talent. We are fine and this staff will put together a great class for 2019.

Not what I was asking. Asking why he chose us and not Florida, Auburn, Louisville, etc...

To your point, Napier said after a break, they'll start working on the 2019 class Feb. 15. As in ... next week.

Yup. With a focus on Louisiana. They are going to move outward once they have Louisiana evaluated.

344 lbs, big schools were worried about how much he needs to lose

For those worried about the Cajuns ranking being low in the SBC, consider this. 8 players from this class will likely be contributors in 2018. Those include the 3 JUCO's, the 2 grad transfers, and three freshman. The three freshman are the punter Burns, the big guy in Porter, and LB Kris Moncrief. Why do I say Moncrief? Answer is because a staff member told me after the program last night that Moncrief is by far the best player we signed yesterday. That is a surprise to some as some of his other offers were by FCS schools. That may be because he focused on offense for most of his HS career as a RB. Once again point of all this post is that the rankings/stars etc. are meaningless at our level. Getting eight players to be contributors in Year 1 is something most would be pleased with.

Pretty sure he's eligible.....I think they are scared of his weight. He's gonna have to lose bigly, 30 to 40 pounds, to play. we couldn't pass on this one...
