Thread: Ranking the QB matchup of every Super Bowl

  1. UL Football Ranking the QB matchup of every Super Bowl

Sports Illustrated writer Peter King dubbed this the "Greatest Super Bowl of all time." The biggest reason for it was Tom Brady and Jake Delhomme.

Delhomme went from NFL Europe to Super Bowl quarterback in a meteoric rise and went toe-to-toe with Brady. After New England took the lead in the second quarter following a Brady pass to Deion Branch, Delhomme countered with a 39-yard zinger to Steve Smith. Brady dished another touchdown before the half to David Givens, but the fun was just beginning.

With the score at 21-16 in favor of the Pats with 12:39 to go, Delhomme and Brady traded scores in the fourth quarter, capped by Delhomme connecting with Ricky Proehl with 1:08 left in the game to tie the game. That was too much time for Brady though, who marched New England to the Carolina 31-yard-line, giving Adam Vinatieri his second Super Bowl-winning field goal in three years.

    Talk about déjà vu.

He certainly didn’t tell him to kick it out of bounds. Guy had been in the league 12 years. If he tells the QB to be smart and he throws a pick 6...you gonna blame the coach for saying be smart? Literally the only thing you can’t do right there is kick it out of bounds.

Duh, dumb, safe dumb, scared dumb.

John Fox went for 2 WAY to early in the game.

This allowed New England a no risk 2 point conversion.

    3 point swing.

How much did John Fox lose by?

How many minutes and plays did they have after that? You think New England plays exactly the same? That’s not how games unfold. Hindsight is easy but you change situation and result that early in a game..everything after that changes. I bet John Kasay himself would tell you he cost them the super bowl.

Bottom line is, Jake should have had that Super Bowl win and MVP to go along with it. He was never going to be at the top of any lists of the greatest QBs of his time, but I think history would look much more kindly on his career as a whole.

I never really liked the Patriots or Brady, but that game is the biggest reason I almost never watch any Patriots games to the end. That and how much the announcers slobber all over themselves when they call Patriots games.

In their defense they are getting to call games for the undisputed GOAT. I enjoy watching him just because I know my kids will grow up talking about Brady like I grew up talking about Montana.

1 minute 8 seconds and 6 or 7 New England plays, thanks to John Fox's prevent defense.

Yep, like him or not, there can be no argument. Brady is the GOAT.
