To suggest that a Colorado campus... and the culture surrounding legalized pot... isn't going to operate differently on most college students attending Colorado schools... just isn't reality.

And no... every place you go does not "fold you" the same. We are all substantially... whether we agree or not... affected by "peer pressure". And you can drastically alter your life by choosing the wrong or the right peer group. And using pot or alcohol is not just a matter of yes or no. The lifestyle surrounding it's use... those you use it with... and the quantity and frequency of use... play a much larger role in the overall affect it has on your life.
We might be closer on this topic than it appears. Im not in the group of who think sheltering someone from something is the right way. People will be faced with those choices regardless of where they are. Everything you said applies to right here in Lafayette. Maybe the age gap is the difference but the days of “reefer madness” are long gone. Majority of the Younger generation doesn’t view marijuana as an illegal drug regardless of what the government says. It being legal recreationally in other states and legal medically in majority has changed its perception. Your kid has just as much chance of becoming a raging alcoholic coming here or going to UNO or Tulane or anywhere in the south. While that is legal it’s still not good. Anyway original point is schools in Colorado have an advantage if the kid already likes to smoke pot. Similar to the advantage we have if a recruit loves to hunt and fish. It’s not a deal sealer but it’s an advantage.

All true. But it's a little ironic that you posted about Colorado State having "an advantage" in recruiting due to the legality of pot. If it matters not to students if pot is legal or not, what's the big advantage to a Colorado campus?

I'm not huge on this "don't go to Colorado or you'll become a pothead". But there are generalizations attributed to certain states... certain cities... certain colleges... certain industries... certain companies... and to say one has no influence on you over another... wouldn't be correct IMO.

Regardless... talking with your kids about life choices... even if you're generationally impaired to the truths of their surroundings... is a good thing. It demonstrates that you care about them and that you want them to think before they just go with the flow of the crowd.

Someone who smokes it obviously doesn’t care if it’s legal or not. To someone who smokes it, i would think the idea of running down to the equivalent of a local shop rite and getting them some would be enticing.

You do know that if your kid attends Louisiana Tech they're 15 times more likely to neglect pets later in life.

I worked for a company that the CEO asked, "why do so many young employees smoke pot even though we do random drug testing?"... to which our 60 year old HR director replied, "because it's awesome... and once I leave here... the first thing I'm going to do is go buy a bag and smoke some."

    So where’s the advantage?

Unfortunately, over the course of my 35+ year career in the oil and gas industry, I have been involved with the termination of far too many men, with wives and kids, for putting marijuana and other drugs above the safety and well being of their co-workers, family and career. Very sad and stupid! ☹️

That’s not an advantage. By his own argument, it isn’t.

NCAA and CSU both say it’s not allowed. The state allowing it is irrelevant if you’re being tested and monitored by those entities. Now if your argument is “the recruits don’t care, theyll do it anyway”, that removes the advantage of any place that allows it.
